the search returns so many results to sift through. Does the 622 pass Dolby 5.1 through HDMI, or just 2.0?

I ask because I picked up a new DVD player and it only has the optical output for digital audio. My 'el cheapo' 5.1 system only has one optical (currently used by the 622) and one coax (used by old dvd) for digital. My tv, however, has 2 HDMI and an optical output. I'm thinking of using HDMI for both, then connecting the optical from the tv to the 5.1 system.

Any thoughts?

I tried what you're trying to do and all I got was PCM audio. But it wasn't the 622's fault, it was my TV's fault not passing 5.1.

The 622 does pass 5.1 through HDMI but it depends on your TV if it will pass it to the receiver.

Thanks for the quick reply. That hadn't crossed my mind yet, definately something to check. Perhaps time to upgrade the 5.1 system to one w/ 2 optical inputs
