I need some advice

I now have my FTA system up and working, it is a pansat 2800a

When i go to amc3 ( 87 deg ) and tune into the pbs stations i get no sound on my tv.

I see that it is AC3 audio, and I am assuming that is like dolby digital.

I have a s/pdif output on the back of the receiver, and i pulled the plug and can see what looks like a red led inside.

So can i just get a component like a vhs player or cheap dvd with and input and connect a fiber optic cable to the two to get the sound????????????????????

Any experience with this from one of you more educated people would be helpful
