I want to add an EHD

I would like to add one or more EHDs. I see that Dish requires that they be externally powered. The only drives that are available at my place of purchase are not externally powered. I am wondering if I can plug these drives into a powered 8 port adaptor and have them work. Is the still a limit of three EHDs per Hopper3 and is there still a limit of 2TB per drive?
Place of purchase is limited by Gift Cards that I received for Christmas.

A powered hub will work. The 2TB limit is still there and I believe that only 3 can be seen at a time.

I've had success using non-powered usb drives. Might be worth a try if you have one (2TB or less) that you don't mind having reformatted.

Yep, non-powered ones work but we're told that it's too much strain on the Hopper power supply and it will shorten the life of the Hopper, which makes total sense.

I may use mine differently from most. I transfer shows then disconnect.

True. However I still have never had any issues with a non-powered drive. A powered hub might be good option.

FWIW, I tried an SSD with a USB adapter and it (the SSD) was not recognized.

I believe the minimum size for an EHD is now 500GB.

I logged on to look at what Dish says on their website. The SSD that I tried was below the 320G requirement (Hopper) so perhaps that's the reason it was not recognized. The Wally needs 500GB minimum. No harm done. The SSD is in use elsewhere and the Hopper is fine.
