If I am buying a used reciever.....

What is the best way to check if it has a balance on it or not. Is there a website or do I have to call Dish network and ask them over the phone for each one I may be looking at.

i'd just write down all the numbers of the receivers your looking at and call dish. they can check all the receivers and it only takes a few minutes. don't know about the web site.

The website idea is a good one. Dish should put up a list of all the receiver numbers on accounts with unpaid balances. Even better, show the balance! This would presumably further Dish's aim of getting paid for services by making it harder for sellers to unload their receivers on innocent 3rd parties.

Also, Dish should put up a list of all their leased receiver numbers. This would make it much more difficult for thieves to fence stolen receivers.

Yeah... Let's get a list of a few thousand receivers released to the general public... that's a brilliant idea. If people used more common sense instead of asking for DISH to build a website that provides common sense for them...
