Got this IFR-500A a few months ago for radio servicing but it doubles as a pretty decent receiver. Got the service manual and over the past few months went through it to restore to specs. Covers 100 KHz - 999.9 MHz. Works fine on HF for FAX, great on AM BCB band, shortwave stations come in real good. So far it is pretty deaf on LF though, but have to wait for winter for stronger signals. I hooked the Demod jack to the SignaLink for piping audio to computer for decoding digital signals.

Built like a battleship, weighs around 19 lbs, has the option high precision 10 MHz Xtal crystal/oven which was exactly on frequency. Beautiful piece of equipment. Some guy named "Lee" must have owned this one as he wrote his name in indelible ink on the front hi hi.

Anyone ever have one of these or it's cousins?

At the Warminster PA Hamfest two weeks ago saw an IFR 1200S with manual in good cosmetic condition and as per the seller worked fine, he wanted $300. Very tempting but did not have that much cash on me. Lesson learned hihi.
