I'm with DISH through thick and thin

This just in: Playboy TV announces Dish pulled its channels due to a negotiation failure. Dish refused to pay for implants for 5 promising Playmates. "Our position is all-natural," said a Dish spokesperson. Playboy was unavailable for comment. It's unclear what will happen next.

I'm glad you brought the Playboy channel up. I think that's a good example of what happens when the content providers have to put their product out there all alone on the open market and let the consumer decide the price. No bundling, no "must include it in this package", just pure a la carte and see how it fares.

I've never subscribed to the Playboy channel, but I've watched the pricing over the years. Seems like I remember it being $20 or more in the past, now it's $16. I'm pretty sure that in all the years it's been available, it hasn't gone up much if any. Look what has happened to all the premium channels, HBO and such. In order to keep subscribers, they've had to offer half off specials and lower prices.

I say let the locals do the same, and that's what DISH is attempting by separating them out. I imagine lot's of people have dropped the locals and gone OTA. Those people just don't see the value.

I think if content providers had to put all their products out there a la carte, it would solve all these negotiations and channel drops. Let the market determine the value of each channel individually.

Just a few thoughts from the lower third of my brain.

Ala carte can never happen. Too many programmers own multiple channels and will NOT let providers like Dish sell them ala carte. But, it would be nice. I remember when the big dish did ala carte and I subscribed to 16 out of hundreds. Actually, how many programmers are there for the bulk of the channels. Here is a list:

I remember when I was a full price subscriber to HBO when it had risen to $18/mo. I was ready to drop it when the $10/mo for life came around. I’ve been with Dish since ‘01. Flex/locals/ movie pack gives me more than enough choices, and yes I can record 16 channels at once.

I wouldn’t pay for any porn channels on any provider these days

Best thing to do is get a ROKU, and find a streaming service.

There are a few that charge by the minute and you buy packages with minutes, and others you pay for a full months subscription.

Back in the day I had a DVR just for porn.
