Incompatible remote?

After years of use the buttons on our Dish remote were getting wonky so I picked up a new one from eBay. It's got a different model number from the remote we already have and...doesn't seem to control the 301 receiver.

The remote we've been using is model # 103602

The remote that I just got is #113268 and says 1.5 on the back.

Is there some way to make the new remote work with our 301 receiver?

Hoping....
Lynda

You probably need to set your new remote to the frequency code that the old remote had.

If you don't have a remote control user's guide, go here:

Satellite TV User Guides - Customer Service & Support - DISH Network
Click on Remote Control
Click on 1.5 Blue Button Remote Control (2MB)

This will down load the guide.

Go to Page 16 and follow the instructions for Changing The Remote Control Address. Note: you might need the old remote to get the System Information up. You get to where you need to be by pressing Menu, 6, 1, 3.

One other thing. If you had called Dish and told them that your remote no longer worked, they would have sent you anew one for free.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! :D

It worked like a charm, within five minutes I had the remote address reset and even found the code to work the TV.

Eternally grateful,
Lynda

P.S. I didn't know Dish sent free replacement remotes now. A few years back they wanted $18, and I never bothered asking again. Good to know. :)

While Dish may send out free replacements, if you want additional remotes you need to buy them. That's were the buyer needs to be careful. Many older models will not control some of the newest Dish receivers. There used to be a link on this site to a chart of remote to receiver compatibility, but I don't know if it is still available.

Another issue with second hand remotes is that the different models use different sets of codes for TVs, VCRs, DVD players, and A/V receivers. You may find that the codes in your receiver operating manual don't work with a given older or newer model remote.

Know what you are buying!
