Infomercials pushed to my DVR?

The other day my wife was asking about the "foreclosure show" that I recorded on our 722 the night before. I had no idea what she was talking about and found that it had recorded some infomercial in the middle of the night and neither one of us, at least intentionally, programmed it. It's quite possible we did it on accident, but just wondering if anyone else has seen this?

Is Dvr Connected to internet?

I remember seeing this show as a Download maybe was downloaded by accident.

Several of us saw such an ad a few months ago. Most were bent out of shape because it popped up among our own recordings and not in Dish's partition. Others (such as myself) deleted it unviewed.

I get that randomly. I can't tell if it's the dog, the 1 year old, dish network, or the neighbor's remote signal bouncing off of my bathroom mirror.

My most recent was some show on FoxNews tonight that neither of us at home set to record.

With your setup, can you tell which remote it came from?

The only push that I've seen was the Slingbox infomercial.

Schedule Change?

I have seen this happen when the guides shows one thing for over the night. Then station changes what was being shown in less time than it takes Tribune to update the EPG.

It's very likely that this was pushed to your DVRs by Dish. They've done this more than once in the past too.... And remember, they're allowed to do this.

I've only had one or two things pushed onto my DVRs by Dish in any given year. And, IIRC, never more than 15 mins worth. Usually 5 mins.

This doesn't sound like the sort of thing Dish pushes onto DVRs. Maybe, but I suspect some other source.

I am connected to the internet, but this wasn't a download, it was in "My Recordings" - the regular PVR area. It was the local NBC channel. So that makes it seem harder for them to coordinate a mass "push" of timers, I think. Could be targeted to my (Phoenix) market.

I did also recently sign up for the Sling Beta, but haven't really used it yet.

The idea that the guide info may have changed at the last minute confusing the timer/schedule makes some sense... Except it was a really odd time and length - like from 2:05AM, I don't remember exactly, but it wasn't on the 1/2 hour. And I don't have anything scheduled on NBC.

No telling. Just was wondering if Dish had a new revenue stream by charging to automatically program get rich schemes. Not terribly concerned at this point, just curious...

If it's from your local NBC, "you" or someone with control of your DVR recorded it. Sure sounds like an accident though...

I've noticed, for example, my "House" dishpass recording "Houses for $300" infomercials played (on the local networks!) late at night. Could this be something similar to that? It's not immediately obvious, but could happen, I guess.

Press the DVR button 3 times and the page up button as needed to see the info on that recording.
If you see User 2 then it could be a remote talking to your set. May be more info about it. This is good for several days back depending on how much you record. My problem is spontaneous stops by User 1 (the IR) when no one is around.

To prevent the above mis-record check exact name on the Dish Pass.

$ issue plus your SO might not be happy about the porn.

my receivers are always locked for this reason.

a prankster could amplify the output of a dish UHF remote and broadcast a buy stuff signal to all receivers in a wide area, i am surprised this hasnt already occured

It hasn't because there is no "buy" button. They would have to know what screen you are on, and push the buttons the correct amount of times and have each push register. Very rare for that to actually happen.

Not that I think it will happen - but they could just turn off the receiver and turn it back on. That way all receivers getting the signal would be at the same starting point.

Yes but only if the receiver was A: on the same remote frequency and B: received every command without missing one.
