I saw some HDR TVs at IFA in Berlin last week and the pictures were great. For HDR to work, it needs an additional feed of HDR data alongside the existing TV picture, and it looks like that will be one of the additions in DVB-S2X:
Ericsson and Intelsat push new boundaries in delivery of HDR services

By using the DVB-SX2 satellite broadcasting standard, Intelsat can drive greater transmission efficiencies, opening up the capability to enhance the quality of the HD contribution feed with HDR without incurring bandwidth losses. By doing this in an open and non-proprietary workflow, Ericsson allows satellite TV service providers to easily upgrade existing legacy infrastructures.
