Likely the IF output splatter from one of our el-cheapo LNBFs would create enough interference to mess up the satallite's uplink receivers using that large of a dish!

I've been in that area a couple of times, often wondered if they would give a tour. Tried at White Sands when going past there a couple of years ago, they said NO.

The sad part about it is I was within 45 miles of it on two different vacations in the great Southwest and really did not know it was there.:(

One very cool place you can visit is the Very Large Array in New Mexico. If you can't make it, they have dozens of tour videos available online. Many are technical in nature, such as climbing around on an antenna, or the insides of a cryogenically cooled C Band LNA. Stuff only a hard core R.F. geek would like. Google VLA EXplorer and choose a tour from the drop down menus on the right. It might take a minute for the videos to download and start playing.
