Sorry if this has been asked/answered before. When I hardwire my Hopper to my router it causes everything hooked to my home network to go crazy. Everything logs off and on to the internet constantly. Dish has sent a replacement Hopper but the new one does the same thing. I called tech support again and was transferred to an internet specialist. They could not help and wanted to send a tech but since I've "moved" that's not an option. Besides the techs they send to help me know less about the equiptment than I do. No offense to the really good installers who use this forum. When I go to the network setup on the Hopper it shows a yellow bar on the broadband connection icon and the connections read as failed. The strange thing is the send and recieve info on the bottom show packets being sent and revieved (appx 21,000 in each direction). Can anyone help with this? The wireless router I'm using is a Trendnet TEW435W and the internew connection is thru TWC.

Just a thought do you know if bridging enable??

The default setting has been set to disabled. You can turn it back on. Here are the steps on how to do this.

Yellow Hot Key
Select Network
Select Broadband
Select MoCA from drop down
Blue Hot Key twice.

I may be wrong here but I believe with one Hopper hard wired to the router you want bridging disabled.

The yellow broadband sounds like your Hopper is not getting a DHCP assigned IP address from the router.

The fact that other clients keep dropping their internet connection isn't good and since it's done this with 2 Hoppers I'd be looking at the router.

I also think the Tx and Rx packet count is the packets sent over the MoCA network, not over the Broadband network.

Strange problems, be interesting to see if any other subs are using your model router and what their experience has been.

My $.02

Yeah that could be the issue as well. My understanding was that bridging needed to be disable if you were using the HIC but I could be wrong but it sounds like he not using the HIC.

The home network only goes crazy when the hopper is Hooked up. With the hopper unhooked all my network devices work fine.

But, as I understand, it has done this with 2 different Hoppers. It sounds like some other device in your network, or your router, is causing this problem since it doesn't seem to be very common.

Just a question but how many IP addresses do you have in your DHCP pool on the router? Could you have run out of them if you have a bunch of devices on your network and the Hopper is constantly hammering your router to request a DHCP assigned IP address?

Wow. That'd be a lot of devices.

Not necessarily. When I set up routers I normally assign static IPs then limit the pool of addresses to be assigned to less than 20.

No reason to let it be 50 or the maximum of 254.

If the IP address reservation had been set to something like 28 days and you have a small pool it is entirely possible to run out of assignable IPs.

It was the router. I borrowed a Belkin N600DB and it connected with no problem. Any recommendations on what I should get to support my home network and my Hopper/sling set up without breaking the bank?

I actually have the same problem. I have a Dlink Di624 router. Whenever, I connect the HIC to the network, if have problems with internet connection over the rest of the network. My main computer constantly drops the connection and reconnects. Web pages do not open as quickly as without the HIC connected.

New NB600DB solved the issue. It's been troublefree for a month.

I also have a Dlink DI-624 and experience the same problem as you and the OP. Any solutions you found that not involve buying another router?

I doubt the router was defective. Sounds like a configuration error in there. A new routers default would always work as it keeps track of IP's. Like the other user said, you probably ran out of IP addresses.

I doubt either the router or the hopper are at fault too. I also think it's a configuration issue but what is the problem. Running out of ip's is out of the question as I have a 100 ip gap between my starting and ending ip. I only have about 10 internet connected devices.

Need to do some more testing tonight!

So I finally did some more testing,

I tried connecting using a wired connection again on both ports and got same results where as long as my hopper is connected to my router all of my devices get dropped and I lost internet or it became very slow. The hopper first got a valid ip but then it said connection failed and after trying reset connection and reset network I got a funky ip outside of my range. Also only MOCA is available from the pulldown list and both ethernet ports are gray and disable from the gui. So is there a way to fix this madness. Magically as soon as I remove the cable from the hopper all my devices connect to the internet without issues.

I would check your router to see how many devices your router is configured to handle at one time. Let me give you an example of what I've seen and this may help you out.

A friend had a router set for a max of 5 devices. He already had 5 devices connected to his network. He then proceeded to connect his PS3 to his network and then all the other devices dropped their connection while the PS3 aquired its connection. After the PS3 was connected, then the PS3 dropped it connection and all 5 other devices reconnected.

To fix this issue, he went into his router settings and bumped up the max device amount and once that was done, all devices connected and remain connected.

I know my router with DD-WRT has the max DHCP clients set as 50 by default. Seems dumb if it were set to 5.
