Is it possible to use openbox x3 firmware on openbox s9- s12 stb's. I see that all the boxes are linux based. So I wondered if the boxes were all the same. Would be nice to add youtube to my s9 or s10

Linux doesn't mean compatibility. Compare the flash size and tuner to make sure that they are the same. Bootloaders will be different. Likely that you would also need to get a remote as the key codes are probably different.
