IR Issues/TV Interference

I know this has been discussed before, but cannot find any concrete answers. The issue is with a 21 remote and magnavox TV with built in dvd player. When TV is first turned on there is no response out of remote for at least 30 min or better. Turn TV off & receiver powers right up. It is definitely IR interference from TV interfering with the 21 remote. The TV only has basic picture controls & no opc. Short of making this remote uhf, is there another fix or work around that anyone has came up with?

I always get a UHF remote for customers with that problem.
