518 did not change the EHD playing behavior, however, there is a simple solution: Switch to DirecTV and you won't have any more difficulty.

Sure, if you want everything to be recorded directly to the EHD.
At that point, you might as well just switch to a Wally instead.

Yes, that is one more show than I can record at the same time to my 1TB external hard drive from my Wally with the satellite tuners and the dual-tuner OTA adapter. How well does Directv's dual-tuner OTA adapter work? Oh wait...

Seriously, for those that have minimal recording needs, the Wally may fit your deal. For me, I have often been recording 8 or 9 programs at the same time. A Wally will not work for me...

I have gone from U516 to U517 to U518 on the Hopper 3. I have two Western Digital 2 TB external hard drives. Both are always recognized eventually. I say eventually because I plug one in and I have to wait, sometimes for five minutes before it shows up. But it always does. I filled these two drives when I had a VIP722K.
