What would the possibility of DIRECTV setting up 10 channels (5 HD and 5 SD) of the 5 major networks ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW and MyNetworkTV that would only come on during national (non-local) programming? An example would be the ABC channel being dark until ABC programming begins in the morning (such as The View) then going dark again until primetime shows begin then back to dark once they conclude. This would be cool especially if they don't carry your local channels or if your local channel pre-empts network programming for local sports and specials. Is this possible?

You might want to ask the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) that one. Local broadcasters make their money during network programming hours

Uh, that's SIX networks - also, what about PBS? Most folks would care more about having a decent PBS channel that a looser MNT affiliate, considering they carry next to NOTHING in prime time.

Doesn't really matter anyway - ain't NEVER gonna happen; keep wishing... :p

The local channels do have local commercials during prime time. Usually at half past the hour, so no, this will never happen.

Uh, you have it backwards. During times of national programming is the highest viewership. That's when the local channels want their promo's and commercials seen........
