J.D. Power Rankings: What Happened to Satellite?
On Wednesday, J.D. Power and Associates came out with its annual rankings of cable, satellite and telco video services. And what may be a surprise - or maybe not a surprise to some - is that satellite TV services are not at the top of the firm's regional lists.

Instead, AT&T U-verse TV ranked highest in customer satisfaction in three regions and Verizon FiOS TV ranked highest in one region among video providers, stated J.D. Power's 2008 Residential Television Service Satisfaction Study.

U-verse ranked highest in the North Central (with an index score of 730), West (697) and South (706) regions that were scrutinized by J.D. Power. In the East region, Verizon FiOS ranked highest with a score of 677.

DIRECTV took third in the North Central region, behind U-verse and cable overbuilder WOW. The DBS service also placed third in the West and South regions, behind U-verse and FiOS, and second in the East, behind Verizon's video product.

DISH Network took third in the East, fourth in the South, fifth in the West and sixth in the North Central region, stated the J.D. Power study. One cable operator, Cox Communications, ranked ahead of the No. 2 DBS service in the North Central and West regions.

This is the first year both AT&T U-verse and Verizon FiOS were included in the J.D. Power study.
