Joey updates from hopper?

Today I plugged back in one of my Joey boxes that had been disconnected for about a month. Within minutes it had the latest version of software This got me to wondering if the firmware updates for the joeys are really brought in and held in the hopper and not download directly onto the Joey from the satellite.

Anyone have a clue on this one?
