Joss Whedon's Firefly

So, making yet another movie based on a comic book that's been around for ages doesn't qualify as looking back. OK, that makes sense.

I have BDs as well. Never saw the red ones during the sales. Is there any advantage to the HD-DVD version?

The series and the movie are on my server (I'm pretty sure).
Just haven't had the urge to revisit it. Think I've seen it twice.
Too much new programming out there.
.
Plus, I watch Castle. ;)

Joss Whedon's 'Firefly' Cast Will Lend Voices to 'Firefly Online' Game

There were a lot of happy Browncoats Thursday at Comic-Con.

At the annual multimedia blowout in San Diego, it was announced that the entire cast of the Joss Whedon series "Firefly" will reunite to lend their voices to a new "Firefly Online" game. The game, developed by Sparkplug, in conjunction with Quantum Mechanix and Fox Digital Entertainment, will be based on the Fox series that ran from 2002-03 and spawned the 2005 movie "Serenity."

All the actors, including Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres will be back, and some of the stars, like Alan Tyduk, will be playing multiple roles.

Currently, the site, KeepFlying.com, is running extremely slowly, likely due to the crush after the announcement. What you'll find is that the game lets you create a character that becomes part of the show's universe.

Firefly, Serenity, were great, but the film covered a lot of big plot territory. Not certain how they can make any notable story arc when one knows the future already and who'll be there. Personally, Firefly would be better to be post Serenity. What is new? With the main power being weakened, other power issues would pop up. Resolution always leads to new problems in good writing.

B5 animated their movie, but B5 struggled with other issues such as half the cast was no longer alive. The B5 movie worked, but to be honest, while it told a nice story, it didn't do more than that. It was more an homage to B5 that could have possibly made a foundation for something in the future, but ultimately didn't.

Animation benefits (cheaper, special effects are much easier) and hinders (feels cheaper) the production. BUT! I will say, Star Trek: Lower Decks worked, and that was cartoonish animation! B5 drew up their animation maturely and Firefly can follow in that path. But as things stand, the biggest problem is that Whedon gave the project his blessing, he isn't involved, likely because he put what was left into the movie. He referred to the cancelling as getting a limb amputated. He is the heart of the show. Yes, The Avengers moved on without him and managed to get even better after all of his tireless effort to build a viable Avengers team, so it is possible for Firefly to grow without him. But the loss of Whedon is a bigger problem than the animation. Do the animation right and the show can work. It has to have the spirit of the show.
