Kia EV9

Well made it 18hrs and back at dealer. Guessing the battery coolant settled overnight. Have a low battery coolant warning now. Sitting here waiting for them to find the battery specialist and see how long that's gonna take to fix

1.5hrs later system burped and appears to be air free and full again. Sent me home with a gallon of coolant in case it comes back, I can do it myself and not waste time going up there and waiting

EV9 is ready with new high voltage battery, waiting on courtesy driver to come pick me up. Now to see if it can be trouble free until Nov 4 when I turn it in and if I can drive 13k miles before then to get money out of the lease. :)
That was actually a pretty quick turn around it seems.

It's still a fun comfortable vehicle to drive around. It took an OTA update this morning for the infotainment system. Hopefully I don't get any of the black screen problems I've seen online with wireless CarPlay from people that already have the update.

I was coming here to post the same Verge article, but you beat me to it. It seems odd that this particular battery pack would be a problem, is its size over the EV6? I thought the modules were all the same, so hopefully it's just a firmware problem that can be tweaked OTA for those packs that haven't yet been replaced.

Seeing several 24 LLR with 20-24k miles going for $37k now. Any Kia incentives would definitely make it at least a break even proposition now after taxes. I'm still at less than 14k miles on mine.

6 weeks left on the lease. I haven't driven it much the last month. Just been driving the rivian since it has the keep climate function to run ac while it's parked as it's been so hot at 105-110F. Rivian has spoiled me with the keep climate function not to mention the walk away door locking too.

Put mine in the shop for recall work (had 5 I think to get done), and finally for my infotainment issues. He's opening a case w/ Kia for it, so gave me a loaner .... a 26 Grand Cherokee. Told them 'c'mon man, I'm not sure I've had to pump gas since COVID' lol. The neighboring Hertz they use for their loaners has a hard time keeping EVs around for very long given the state of gas prices, but might swap me out if I check back or they need to keep my EV9 for more than the 10 day period I've got this for. He said he knows people who have had loaners for months because of the battery issues, which thankfully this isn't.

Then I get a text asking to buy my EV9 I have in for service, certainly automated, as if they could really offer me anything to make that worthwhile. No way they can give me 13 months of lease forgiveness + any meaningful amount over my $33.5k residual.

Get me into something newer at same or less than my existing lease and I'd entertain the idea though. Surprise me with a decent offer (not happening) and I'd probably start running the numbers on R2 / R1T / Gravity / Silverado EV. Not in an ideal spot for that kind of move though after our recent trip to Rome and other expenses. Would want to wait until spring / work bonus time to help fund any down payments - would like to go back to buying if I can get something I'd be happy with long term rather than another lease.

Replacing the wiring harness, so has to come by boat from Korea first, looks like I'll have this rental for a month or two. Booo.

At least they're going to pay for gas and stuff, so that was good to hear.

3 weeks until I turn mine in. Still at less than 14k miles. Was at my nephews this morning and their neighbor had a new Ioniq 9 in the driveway.

Dang it's easy to get used to 4 motors and 900HP. Drove the EV9 today instead of the Rivian and could really tell there was 700HP missing. 😂. Still really like the EV9 and will miss it.

lol, the sales arm of the Kia dealership is starting to ping me 'want to make plans or move on from your EV9?'

I tell them that I'd be open to anything that doesn't involve anything out of pocket, ends my lease and puts me in a new EV9 at same or better trim - and admitting up front that I'm not in a position to expect anything to happen and respecting everyone's time I don't think it's worth pursuing.

Then they send me a EV9 Short Range deal for $550/mo - a downgrade from my LLR - while mentioning Kia Financial is pretty strict on lease options, as if I didn't just tie them both together as needing to be dealt with.

el oh el.

I didn't respond. Fed it into Muse and even it had a laugh.

I've got Muse tracking EV prices and some of the vehicles I'd consider.

Got my EV9 back, they replaced the front wiring harness. It wasn't super weird going from the EV9 to the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee... the Jeep just felt so jerky and kinda loud but didn't bother me much - certainly didn't feel like a $30k+ car. But going the other way, what a jarring experience. I had forgotten that feeling of going from ICE to EV, how smooth the ride is and how quiet it is.

Most likely the last time I'll charge the EV9 before turning it back in. Was down to 37% and I was driving it to pick up some thing's this morning since my flat rivian tire is taking up half the bed on it. I was near the EA station and thought I might as well use some more of the free charging up that came with the lease. Still have 250ish kWh left of free charging. Get it up to 80% and it should be good for 2.5 weeks unless something comes up requiring a long drive.
