Bought a LED flat screen tv from a big name store over a year ago. Also purchased a 2 year service plan at the same time. This week, my young son shot the screen with his air soft rifle causing pixel deformation and lines across the whole screen to the top 7 inchs. The protective glass has not been broken. We have also had frequent lightning storms the last few days too. Question is, would I be able to pass this damage off as surge damage due to lightning which is covered under my service plan?

Doubtful, but if there's no damage to the screen you can probably pass it off as just failing. Shooting screens with an air rifle is not covered by warranty, so don't say anything ;)

Update: tech visit from warranty company ruled tv had received heavy surge from lightning. Tech was cool and really could not rule it out as user damage. Warranty company deemed expense to repair tv greater than a replacement so they are sending me a check for the total cost made on tv purchase. Sweet!
