Locking Up Problem

My box locks up randomly, but very frequently. Sometimes it will go a few days, sometimes a few minutes. By locking up I mean if I do a hard reboot I get a great signal. (97-98 constant.) The picture looks great, no problems what so ever. No problems until randomly the picture just starts going out. If I am quick enough I can get into the menu and look at the signal. The box can't hold a signal. (the signal strength jumps all around before it dies all together). I've tried to wait it out thinking it is just rain fade ect (even if it isnt raining) but it will not come back (left it on for 24 hrs once and signal never returned). But if i do a hard reset it comes right back up and everything is fine.
I saw on another thread where voltage to a non amplified antenna may cause a dc short, so I tried changing my diplexer. DIDNT WORK
I tried removing the diplexers (at sat and at box) all together and running two seperate cables to the box. DIDNT WORK
I am assuming either my box is screwed up or the lnb is screwed up (HEck what else could it be right?!?)

My long winded question is (A) Can I put a dtv lnb on the sat to troubleshoot, and (B) Am I missing somethign?
ANy comments/help appreciated since I can't get a service call until 3 wks from now.

Sounds like a bad STB. Hopefully, TYORK will see this and comment. Have you asked VOOM for a new STB?

Still enjoying HDTV under cloudy but where's the rain? Seattle skies, Gill
