Hi! Please provide details about your short and long range planned use of hd rcvr - the set you will feed, where you are (ZIP?), home or apt., shoe size, etc. just kidding on the shoe!

I have a voom unit from e*bay for about $55 including shipping. I am 3 miles from the towers here in Houston, tx. Voom works fine for the present, I even bought another for backup. It drives a 52 inch Toshiba rear projection monitor. You must be careful about which voom to buy!!!!! Must be activated and currently receiving ota hd.

USDTV - filed for bankruptcy crap. No kidding.

Get a used Voom box on ebay or a LG LST-4200

Ok short and long range plan of use is to keep as long as it keeps working :). the set I have to feed it with is a sony RPLCD the 43" GW. My zip is 05046 according to antennaweb I wont be able to get anything but I can reliably pull in the analog feeds of the stations im looking at and once the digital feeds go up this fall Im thinking I should be able to get the digital's. I was looking at the voom ones but how can I be sure it is activated and currently recieving OTA? I also heard that sometimes if you do a reboot on the voom ones that you can loose the ability and never get it back to use it for OTA?

Not rebooting... but if you were to do a full reset it could bite you in the butt. Then there is a whole PBS issue. Basicly PBS is transmitting guide data in the PSIP stream and the Voom boxes instantly reboot upon seeing this.

Basicly... you can't tune the PBS HD station. Aside from that all is well and good on the Voom front.

OH man PBS that stinks thats one of the Channels I miss the most thier HD feed had some really good shows on it. guess Ill see about picking up a samsung off ebay or soemthing thanks guys.

Cheap (low price) ota hdtv receivers with good receiving ability is an old satellite receiver that has an atsc tuner built in. a directv hd receiver that has dvi out and cable antenna in is the best for old directv hd receivers. the older ones without dvi out suffer from tuner degradation this is caused by the user not having the receiver properly ventilated a directv card is not needed. another is a voom receiver it must be activated and have the 8-vsb tuner module, remote control, and voom card. the pbs psip problem sending guide data in the psip stream is not everywhere. these hd receivers get their program guide information from the satellite so if this is important to you you will have to get an off-air only hd receiver the lg lst-4200a is a very good choice if you can find one.

useful info for cheap over the air hdtv

I have a Voom receiver that is authorized and received all the updates sent out. It stayed connected until the last day Voom was on. I live in central Louisiana. I do not know if you will have any problems with different DMAs. I will sell for $50 plus shipping probably around $10 bucks. Let me know if you are interested.

JK - you'll likely EASILY get that on Ebay. Just be sure to explain that it does scan locals and whatnot. There are a lot of mis-leading Voom box auctions. Screen shots help.

Check these out:

Lots of info + screen shots = good $$

Barebones auction - still got about what you're looking to get:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Voom-DSR-550-HD...0QQihZ007QQcategoryZ67893QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I sold one of mine after Voom went under and later ended up buying another to replace it off of ebay. I've got 3 I use every day now ;).

I have been thinking about putting it on ebay, just procrastinating. Thanks for the links.
