I am looking to buy a newer Coolsat receiver after enjoying my Coolsat 4000 Pro for about 6 years now.

Questions:

1) Is Discount FTA Sat a good company to do nusiness with?

http://www.discountftasat.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=58

2) Discount FTA Sat now offers the Coolsat 6100 for only $49.95 and the Coolsat 7100 for only $79.95. Why so cheap?

3) Does anyone own any of these receivers and how well do they work compared to the earlier model receivers such as The Coolsat 4000 and coolsat 5000?

flush that inventory!

I believe they are made for Coolsat by a different factory, so they are nothing like the 4/5/6 thousand models.
Not in their user interface, for sure.
Are they good receivers? I've not heard anyone bad-mouth them.
But, mostly they went into hacker homes, not FTAer's homes, as the reports here have been skimpy.

And why the low price? Well, -is- it a low price?
I don't know what they sold for last week.
I think about double those prices!
But I do know that this week, hacker support is gone.
I've read (but not confirmed) that Dish Network has totally (?) converted to the new Purple cards, the Nagra 3 security.
That seems to be supported by the info I -can- find.

edit:
If you find someone with one, ask how comitted and uncomitted diseqc switch support works, and if motor support is good.
I imagine it is, but those are the lifeblood of FTA users.

the 4000 5000 and 6000 have the same feel , gui layout
the 6100 7100 are actually manufactured by someone else for coolsat
if you are wanting to stay with the same familure layout then stick to the 5000 or 6000

that price isn't bad , lot of dealers dumping stock on older boxes these are SD plus if you look at e-bay you will probably see a lot more boxes hit the sales

I haven't owned one of these boxes ( 6100 or 7100) but what i do know if you are use to using a channel editor , i don't think one was out for these , i know i use one for my coolsat 5000 & 6000 all the time so its a kill deal for me.not being able to edit channel list.

I thought the 7100 was kinda like a Visionsat

But as noted above, the 4/5/6000 have a different setup than the 6100/7100/8000 (as in much easier on the 4/5/6)

I certainly like the Visionsat.
Just the ability to load 'n save the birds on a USB drive instead of using serial port, is a big convenience.
You might shop around eBay and see what they are going for now.
Were about $89 last week; maybe they're down, too.
Firmware support is exceptional, and has been for a long time.
At least that's a known entity, as opposed to the unknown new Coolsat models.

But, let us know what you decide.
And best of luck!

Thank you guys! However, after reading Pepper's review on the Coolsat 7100 and seeing this review showing the improved graphics, I have decided to buy a Coolsat 7100.

Satman Reviews the Coolsat 7100 PVR

Plus at only $79 it is a great deal.

I just purchased the 7100 off ebay for $79 with free shipping, however I am not very happy at all. The 7100 does not begin to compare with the 4000, 5000, or 6000, I have one of each. The 7100 will not pick up all the channels the others will. You can not change the channel numbers, when changing channel names you do not have as many options or choices.

Colors are different & not as good either. Its kinda like comparing a great name brand TV display to a no name cheap TV display. If I had know it was made by a different mfg I would not have purchased.

Of course this is just my opinion, other may disagree.

I have a Coolsat 7000 micro pvr. It has the "time machine" feature with an internal 1GB flash for pause/rewind etc. It works fairly well, but I find that it seems to hang on some transponders. So when blindscanning it will often go on forever until you delete the offending transponder and then do an auto scan.

I think the 7000 is a decent receiver with PVR support, but the 6000 is much better for blindscan.

The 6100 is similar to the 7000, but doesn't have PVR support in the factory firmware.
