Ask for retention or threaten to quit.

Hesitant to do that. They might call my bluff. Then I have to do it.
280 to get out of contract.
But with all I give Direc and they refuse to move I might just do it.
Suggestions?

I suggest that you gut it out until you can find an alternative that saves you all or most of what you'll pay to switch.

Something else you might try is suspending your DIRECTV account for a period to bring temporary relief during the "off season". It probably isn't much more ethical than threatening to quit, but you don't risk being cut off.

Figure in what you'll be losing but, just as important, what you'll be gaining.

You make allot if sense. Might go that route.

I don't think they will call your bluff, but if they do you can change your mind at the last minute and not cancel after all.

We moved over to comcast recently and have been happier with it. Much more HD, the quality is about the same. We are using a tivo so the DVR part is as good or maybe slightly better. D* has a great dvr, comcast one is crap so we went with the Tivo. All in all we saved a bunch of money and picked up a ton of HD. Premiums mean zero to me.

My advice is to run them both side by side. Make sure you can get out of any contract with the new carrier and see if you like them. DirecTv isn't going to work with you with a contract like that.

We were out of contract and their retention offer was $25 a month less with a instant $250 credit. It was still cheaper to go with Comcast at the regular price.

Bundled services are going to start hurting the sat companies.

If you want to stay with Direct and save money cancel stuff. Do you really need everything? You would be surprised with what you can do without. I downgraded and really don't miss it at all.

Call Retention, you don't have to threaten anything to talk to them, just ask for them, be polite.
Tell them you are paying $ 170+ p/m and would like to know if they can help as the times are tough.
Usually they will offer something to help out.

Also, like tvropro said, cut pack on a package to something more reasonable ....
Do you NEED ALL the movie channels, or can you narrow down to 1 or 2 services you use most.

Dropping from Premier to the Ultimate will save you and that has some movie channels in it.

Ask them if they have a package that would do most of what you need.

Look here :
http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/packages/base_packages.jsp?footernavtype=-1

Pricing difference between the top 2 packages is $112 to $68, 220 channels vs 280, but MANY of them are music channels. Do you use the Music Channels ?

Yes, a viable option. However, I really dont want to cut back. I use direc in my office@multiple other locations. I have given direc a boatload of money. Im always nice when I talk to them. I would never be abusive or disrespecful. But I guess I feel unappeciated. Id like them to say ''for being a loyal sub'' we are going to make you happy. My dillema is I love the espn extra tennis coverage. NFL,nhl and baseball.
Im on the fence about canceling. Im not sure whom that would hurt more though??

If you don't want to downgrade unless retention can cut you some slack I don't know what to say. Its the old saying "If you wanna play you have to pay" I threatened with leaving AT&T and got them to cut my phone and internet price for a year, got a $20 gift card and $50 off my current bill so sometimes threatening walking works :)

Hmm
Yep your right. I just don't get why Direc is so rigid.
Oh well, I will come to some decision. But what I'm paying right now is off the charts.

You want them to help you, offer you something...
Its not gonna happen till you call them, there not gonna pull YOU out of the millions of subs.

Give them a call, explain yourself, see what they can offer you.

Sent from my Samsung Epic using SatelliteGuys

Did you consider instead of premiums just buy a streaming subscription to Netflix and a couple Roku boxes (or if you already have an internet ready BD player or PS3 you can use that).

Hey jimbo
I did. Maybe the wrong specialist.
Response was downgrade only.
They gave stock answer. No promotions
At this time.
I did not threaten to leave but I'm contemplating it.
Customer service is the pits.

I have streaming netfix. Hardly use it. Quality is iffy. Yes, sometimes very good.
But netflix does not have current stuff.
I would not use as main service though I hear some do.

I'm looking for Direc to even make a minor
Move. But does not look like they care.

It could be because your under contract and have so much that there is very little if any to offer. A CSR told me there are always some type of promo or offer going on. You may want to try again next month if they have nothing at the moment. I agree what your paying is crazy but you have it all so they want it all

Since when do premiums have 'current' content? :D It's been out on DVD for many months before it hits premiums. Anyway, Netflix has Starz Play, which is pretty much every movie that Starz/encore is running at the time. And the PQ is great, hardly 'iffy' IME, most movies are in HD as long as your internet connection can support it.
