Apparently, yes. The 865h only has SD analog inputs for use with an external STB like the 211. Not even component.

Now, it could record ATSC HD locals or clear-QAM HD channels via coax (cable only).

If using HDMI cable to do what you're doing, it sounds like the DRM is doing what is designed.
