Enough of the "tributes" and "salutes". We don't need our teams playing in "Throwback" gear or unrecognizable colors. Today, the Giants are wearing navy blue caps to salute the military. Last week, they had jerseys of teams from the Negro League, using teams I've never heard of. Occasionally, they'll wear Orange, sometimes the logo is in Spanish.

The first part of the word is Uni...meaning ONE. Have a home uni, an away uni and leave it at that. I can bet the reason for all of the changes is to sell these bizarre looking one-offs, but having your team dress in anything but their jersey and hat detracts from the game.

I like the throwbacks. I wish the Reds would do it. I want to see them wear the 1869 uniforms again.

Wearing throwback uniforms can educate you on those teams.
I have several negro league replica jerseys .

I like the idea.I wish the NY Mets would wear their 60s & 70s home & away full time instead of the white pajama tops. The Phillies too would look good in their uniforms from the 70s & 80s.The one with the P on it.

If you dont like it, then you should rail against Home/Away Uniforms as well, because that make TWO not ONE.

I like it, its fun.

What i want to see is the NBA do a throwback day and make all the teams wear the short shorts of the 80's!

Throwback & Retro Uniforms are the latest rage in sports. Among other things, they honor the very historic pastime of baseball. And without a reminder of the past, fans and players would forget how and where this league came from and how it has progressed today.

That is ONE as in a TEAM wearing ONE uniform. Not an individual. (That's just my point of view on that...I may be wrong!)

Anyway, some of the retros are cool and I agree last week's game @ PNC was very cool with those particular throw backs.

....as an aside....How anyone can bitch about a team wearing something saluting the military while we are in the middle of a brutal war with men and women dying for us is just beyond my personal comprehension!

I say that the throwback's are a great idea and what would even be more attractive is to have throwback uniforms with throwback prices at the concession stands for innings 1-3! :) :) :)

Beer here . . . here is a $1 my good man! Keep them coming till the $1 is spent! :) LOL :)

I would go to a game if they did that.

Lets not forget the extra $$$ the concession stands make on those uni's. It's all about the green, guys and gals.

Right on mikew!!!

Negro Leagues: OK, it was nice, when it was historically legitimate, which means the origninal pre-expansion footprint of MLB, O N C E . San Francisco never had a Negro League team, and Phoenix was a town of 15K people when those leagues died out 60 years ago. I saw a game to other day where Tampa Bay was wearing the uniforms of a Jacksonville (150 miles away) Negro minor league team that existed for a few years in the 1930s. That is not historically accurate. If the teams in the northeast and upper midwest want to honor these teams permanently, then put up pennants for their past championships and retire some of their numbers from the team in your town.

Spanish: Pandering. Did MLB teams in the 1920s pick days to wear uniforms in Yiddish, Italian, Polish or German? No, they were a part of a wise social system that knew that a common language, no matter a person's ethnic heritage, was important and which encouraged newcomers to, without losing their culture if they so desired, learn the common language of the country in which they proposed themselves to live.

Military: Wearing a cammo or R,W,&B decal does not "support the military". It is, again, just pandering and feel-goodism. If you want to "support the military", join the USO. Get involved in politics and support whatever policies you feel are most condusive to their future success. Say thank you to a man or woman in uniform. Spend some time at a VA Hospital.

General Old Uniforms: As noted, the best uniforms are the ones that have not changed much. Yankees. Cubs. Dodgers. The original teams need to pick a style from the past and STICK TO IT, and the expansion teams need to pick uniforms that pick up on that style. I saw Tampa Bay, which apparently never wears its own unis, in 1967 AA Tampa Tarpons unifoms, which were just the 1960s era Reds uniforms with a modified logo (Tampa was a Cincinnati farm team). Ugh. Cleveland has like 20 uniforms, because, Cleveland never was any good and changed uniforms every few years to get a never-ending series of "fresh starts" and now it wears all of them this year.

And, while I am at it:

Batting practice uniforms have to go. WHITE shirts at home, grey on the road. No colors.

And, special memo to the Blue Jays and the Mets. Black is NOT one of your team colors. The Mets, with their systhysis of the Giants and Dodgers uniforms, have one of the best expansion uniforms. They toss that away to were sloppy black batting practice uniforms. Toronto likewise had the last natural team name left and picked up so very well on the traditional Toronto color of blue and had a cap logo that was just awsome. So they trade that for a black whatever with a pi**ed off looking bird inside a "J" (not even a "T").

Blue skies. Green grass. White uniforms.

No offense, Sam, but you seem to live in an old world of black-and-white.

Get with the times- this is not 1953 anymore.

After all, I can live with uniform changes and such- my Sabres did so.

In 1996, they had a patch to honor their deceased owner, Seymour H. Knox III, who was vital in bringing NHL hockey to that city.

I'll bet you would have been opposed to that...

The throwback and salute uniforms are fine, provided they're not doing it as a marketing strategy to sell more and different uniforms. The Mets are a joke with their 65 different combinations of paraphenalia they can wear. You know there are a lot of poor saps who need to have all 65.

What really bugs me is the NHL, which uses third uniforms strictly as a marketing tool. At least they curtailed it this year, not sure what the plans are for next year.

Hey Sabres...I have been busy recently, my triathlon training has stepped up a notch since now I'm training for an Olympic distance triathlon, which is twice as long as the sprint triathlon I did at the end of May.

I traveled some with my job the last few weeks, so I haven't been home all the time.

Also, I started and stopped dating a guy in the last month and a half.

I have been in here on occasion, though, I did comment on how cute you looked it that blue dress in the chit chat forum, and how handsome your sister looked in her suit!

I'm leaving on a family vacation with nieces and nephews tomorrow morning and won't be back until Sunday July 13, so I'll start commenting after that.

After someone posted the picture of Roselyn Sanchez in that chit chat thread, I see no need to post a picture of me...let everyone think I look like that! Actually, I'm not computer literate with things like posting pictures online or anything, so even if I wanted to do it I'm not sure if I could.

Have a great holiday!

I'm also going on a vacation to visit some relatives- to California's O.C. in roughly two weeks (My dad's parents are from California- he lived there for many years before he and my mom met in Buffalo).

However, there is an internet connection, so I will still be able to keep up with this site. But, I will not be on here the day I fly out with my family.

I will announce when that occurs, BTW.

Anyway,

good luck on your vacation, have a good time, and don't forget- the Ice-landers STILL STINK!

Ditto. Colored jerseys look ridiculous to me. We already have bloated offensive numbers that make the game softball-like--and with those colored jerseys, they look the part as well!
