Microsoft wants its own Google Voice. And maybe this one comes to Canada...

Yeah this would not only give them voice but video as well since it's Skype..

I believe this is more to disrupt Google's moneymaker - search.
Deals with Yahoo, Nokia, RIM are just about this - boosting Bing, I think.

And so is Skype. WP7 survival will be a nice bonus...

And it is not too expensive considering Intel paid as much for McAfee...

While Microsoft is buying a standalone VOIP application maker, Google is open-sourcing real time audio/video framework for in-the-browser communication

And it carries a BSD-type license, i.e. no restrictions in modifying, commercializing and keeping to yourself the changes...

Obviously, this is to make their ChromeOS - that is essentially just a browser - a more competitive platform...

Well, Skype has already started putting crapwear in their updates, so they are already one step closer

Considering the MS' ownership of Skype hasn't been cleared yet, they can't do much.
But regardless, how real this exploit is will depend on the time frame it will be invalidated...
