Microsoft raising prices to "full retail" 1/31

It is reported by UK site The Register that MS will be raising prices to full retail at the end of the month.

This raises prices to $120 for Win8 and $200 for the Pro version. This is, IMO, a bad move if they are trying to entice people to upgrade the OS without upgrading the hardware.

Just like their phones.. windows 8 flopped and even more now at full price.

You're running a *nix variant underneath the covers on Mac, which isn't exactly bad

I think it's OpenBSD + the Mach Kernel.

Given the slow adoption rate I wouldn't be surprised if they changed their minds on this. I have no need to upgrade anyways. Windows 7 is all I need in an operating system. Basically everyone has said that without a touchscreen Windows 8 sucks, and I don't see myself getting one anytime soon as I'm more than happy with my powerhouse attached to my 50" Plasma Panny.

Matters less to me now. Looks like I won't be making any upgrade or not decisions in the future. Certainly, at home, being released from MS Exchange and Remote Access will open up options.

Do not know that I would have paid full retail to update an existing computer, but at the discount price, it was the best decision I could make with the PC I had. It certainly improved its functionality and speed.

What I'm saying is if we didn't switch from Windows to the MacOS I would have most likely switched to Linux.

Another way to look at it is that anyone that wanted the new Win 8 could have upgraded by now.

The only logic I see in this is that MS knows the individual enthusiasts that wanted to upgrade to the latest and "greatest" would have done so by now. The next set of upgraders will be businesses that move to a new platform well after the release. So, now it will soak the corporate buyers.
