Missed (skipped?) recordings

Long story short, anyone have missed or skipped recordings? It seems once or twice a week it happens. Example tonight I was going to watch Graham Norton that should have been reocrded last night. Not there. Hmmm. They actually have a replay next Friday (they usually dont have repeats) and that one is being "skipped. So not only did it not record the "new" episode it skips the repeat. This used to happen a lot when they switched guide providers. They did do that right? I've called in numerous times and am constantly told that I'm the only one who has this issue and they have never switched guide providers. Then they try to show me how to record at all that BS. It's one thing to have issues with the service, but then to act like I'm the one that doesn't know how to use the stuff.

I'm new to this forum... finally given up on the newly redesigned non-user friendly official Dish forum.

I also had the same issue last week with The Terror. This has been an ongoing issue with various shows and channels that I have been reporting to Dish for almost a year now. Timers arbitrarily can't see new episodes in a series even though all the guide info is correct. Timers are so unreliable that I have to check every day or I will miss shows that I have set to record.

I posted the above in another thread (Timer for "TheTerror" didn't fire) several weeks ago. Dish tells me that it's been a known issue for a year and then they tell you something different. This is why I'm really fed up with Dish and about ready to switch to another service.

Make a new timer for it but DO NOT delete the one you have. I find a few shows particularly for A&E and History but there are others where some new shows will record others act like there is no timer. It takes one time and I make a new timer for the shows that are not recording and the two timers combined seems to fix the problem in each case. It appears sometimes shows have a different set of attributes one timer does not pick up but the other does.

BTW a clue in your case is there is a repeat that usually does not exist. I have found there is always something about the set of shows the first timer does not catch, such as those shows repeat at a different time than normal, or have more repeats etc.
This scenario happens with "Larry's Country Diner." The do not repeat but every great once in awhile they do, and when that happens neither the original time nor the repeat are set to record.

So much for people saying that this problem is just anecdotal. 3 more people confirmed in addition to the other reports.

Very frustrating to say the least. I've spoken to them numerous times about it, the first time I think was the only time they acknowledged it. Thsi last time they had me talk to a supervisor who adamantly denied there has ever been these issues, and that I was flat out wrong about them switching guide data providers. They did switch, didn't they? I think the 1st time I called in they made the suggestion to delete all timers and then set up new ones. Still didn't help.

I don't expect technology to be perfect, but at least admit when there are issues, you know? I'm not looking for free stuff I just want help fixing it. And don't treat me like an idiot that doesn't know how to set up a recording. This is my biggest beef with Dish.

You, we, know much more than the CSR's and that's the begining of the problems and has been forever. It has to be the fault of DISH and their (non) training.

Add me to your list of victims. The timer has worked without problems for over two years. Last night the program was not recorded. Fortunately, I can watch the missed program on HBOGO. The message this is sending me is I cannot trust Dish. If this problem is not fixed Dish may see an exodus of subscribers to internet-based services.

Can you scroll up to the past list of scheduled recordings and see the reason it was skipped like you can on ViP receivers?

Could the problem be with the guide information that Dish is getting about the program (rather than a receiver problem)?

I remember from way back in the Charlie Chat days, they said that the information that Dish uses to record a program is different from the data that we see in the guide, and is not visible to subscribers. If that is true, then the info that we see could say it's a new program, but the info that Dish is getting might be different.

I haven't had any issues with my 722, FWIW.

I am not having any problems with my HWS either, but I am not trying to record the shows that were mentioned as being not recorded. Since it only affects certain programs, that is why I suggested that it might be the program guide that is at fault.

Yes, although that is not always helpful. For example, when my Wally misses an OTA recording, I scroll up and see that it says "Not Applicable" for the "Recording Started" and "Recording Stopped" categories, even though it has the correct times listed for "Timer Started" and "Timer Stopped" and says "Completed by Living Room 1." I assume this is because I did not have a good OTA signal for that station at the time of the timer, but there is no way to tell for sure from the available information. By the way, this is set-up as a manual weekly timer, not a timer for a specific show, so the guide information would not come into play in this case. I manually skip the timer any week the station is showing something in that time-slot that I do not wish to record.

I have always suspected this as being the problem. I have seen incidents when a new show is not labeled as new and visa versa. So wishing we could go back to the old guide data supplier.

At least in my case (on a VIP) that would not be applicable because if it does not record it is because the timer does not see it at all so there is nothing in the history of why it did not record. Otherwise it will say priority, not new, duplicate event, stopped by user etc as you already know.

On my HWS I've had lots of things not record lately that didn't even show up as a skipped recording, they just plain didn't show up at all.

I recently caught one of these incidents in the act -- the problem is that the guide has changed; either the name, description, or exact start time of the show isn't what it was when I set the timer.

Yep a lingering problem from the guide provider changeover. Better than it was but still raises it's ugly head sometimes.
