Recent model DTV may or may not have connections you need. I think you need the lowest end standard definition receiver, with or without DVR function. If you have an HD receiver, it may not have the connectors you need and will have to exchange it.
The lack of a remote is going to cause some serious issues. The DTV receivers don't have channel 3 outputs anymore, and the only way to switch to the av inputs on the TV is via the remote. You would need either a universal remote or see if the DTV universal will support your TV. There should be a section of the DTV receiver manual that contains remote codes for various TVs. I did a little research and it looks like remote code 10171 will do the trick. You can find the info online here:
http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIF.jsp?assetId=P4380056#h:605.599 The manual will show you how to program the remote code.
Once you have the remote programmed, you can use the input select function to select video1 or video2 (not sure which)
You will need an SVideo and a pair of audio connectors. The Svideo one has a silver shell around a set of pins that are arranged in a V. Check to see if this connector is on your receiver. If so, connect from the DTV receiver to the TV plug. The audio connectors are the red and white RCA connectors. They have a shall and a single large center pin. Plug red into red and white into white.
If all this works, you should be set to go.
