Dodgers blow it on the most bizarre play I have ever seen. With two outs and runners at 2nd and 3rd in the ninth, while the pitcher is cleaning his cleats the runner at third just runs home to steel home and tie the game. On the throw hone the ball got away from the catcher and the runner at second scored the go ahead run.

The throw home from the pitcher was WAY over the catchers head, never had a chance ....
Saw it on Quick Pitch a few minutes ago .... amazing.

That reminds me of the time (10 yrs ago or so) between the Angel's and A's bottom of the 9th with Jason Kendall on 3rd for Oakland. KRod has a mind-cramp and drops the ball on the mound. Before he could pick it up, Kendall had stolen home and won the game. Incredible.

Bill,

Seeing Jacoby back in the lineup and producing is like having mac & cheese or whatever your favorite "Comfort Food" is. Isn't it? He looks good.

The Sox have certainly missed his production. The kids (Ross, Sweeney, Nava, Kalish) have done very well filling in for Ellsbury and Crawford, but no where near the production they got out of Ells last season (when he was MVP runner-up).

Bill, how is the kid who replaced Youk doing? Middlebrooks?

Mets down 3-0. If this series doesnt scream for starting pitcher and/or relief pitcher for the Mets, I dont know what does.

Strasmas report:

Code:
Pitcher IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA
Strasburg: 6.0 6 0 0 1 7 0 105-70 2.66 (W, 10-4)

Batting averages, season
Code:
Strasburg .385
Ciriaco .417

Note: if Ciriaco makes outs in his next two at bats, his batting average will drop to .384. Back to the minors!

He's been outstanding! In 183 at bats he is hitting .301 with 11 HR's and 41 RBI's, and has been solid at 3B. The best part is he's only 23 years old. :)

One thing that may concern me (hopefully i'm wrong): his durability. We shall see.

In the American League, eleven of the fourteen teams are within one and one half games of qualifying for a wild card spot.

In the National League, only one team is that close to displacing one of the five leaders for those playoff spots, another is three games out and a third team is three and a half out.

When people talk about likely "buyers" and "sellers", to this point in the season, probably eight of the eleven likely sellers are in the National league.

OMG!! Ted Cox!! Talk bout a blast from the past!!

He was part of the package (along with Bo Diaz and Mike Paxson??) that the Sox sent to Cleveland for Dennis Eckersley.

Bo Diaz played for the Reds for a long time.

Bo played about six years in the Red Sox organization, and had a cup of coffee with the big club in 1977. He was traded to Cleveland prior to the beginning of the '78 season. However, his best seasons were with the Phillies and Reds. He retired in 1989 because of knee problems.

Tragically, he died in 1990 at the age of 37 when he was crushed by a satellite dish on the roof of his house. :( (I have to admit, I thought he was struck by lightning until I looked it up)

Good Lord! What the Angels had to go thru to eek out a win in NY today was gut-wrenching.

KCK_Halo, you obviously must be happy with Pujols. The guy has 15 home runs since May 27, I think. They flashed the graphic on the YES Network broadcast that he was hitting .1something or other and since May 27 has been hitting over .350. Thats pretty impressive.

Bo... died in 1990 at the age of 37 when he was crushed by a satellite dish on the roof of his house. :( (I have to admit, I thought he was struck by lightning until I looked it up)

I remember the story being reported when it happened, as I was in the business at that time. I think it was a 16 foot dish, which weighed over a ton.

That is how I remember him dying too was lightning. You didn't see that on wikipedia did you?

Reds back in first place by themselves and on a 7 game winning streak. :D
