Today Pioneer has officially confirmed a new production delay with its BDP-HD1 Blu-ray disc player. Originally scheduled for June, the player is now not expected until autumn. Now the question is whether Samsung will be delayed as well...

Perhaps this has been posted already but it looks like the Sony player has slipped to 8/15 (is that considered Autumn?).

("Targeted Availability" doesn't sound overly optimistic)

I got the new crutchfield mag yesterday and they had the samsung and sony blue ray players in there, both $999.99. Of coarse next to it was the tohsiba hd-dvd for $499.99, but it wouldnt surprise me if the blue ray players get delayed since they are twice the money as hd-dvd

They probably saw the problems Toshiba was having and decided they needed to get the glitches out of their boxes. VC-1/MPEG-4 decoding probably needed tweaking after getting a larger sample of movies encoded to see what caused the lockups that Toshiba saw.

Or more likely because it's still freakin' expensive to mfr those BD players as well as discs... it's all economics, people.

They know very well if they cannot compete with $499, they will lose the whole game - HD-DVD will reach the critical mass way ahead of them and eventually BD will die.

They *HAVE TO* cut the prices, period. BD players were priced at insanely expensive level... Toshiba's unit was already expensive but asking twice as much makes wonder everybody what are those BD folks are smoking...

Oh, but those BR players are so much better, they're definately worth twice the price!!!

HAHAHA
