Movies on Hipast - 30w :)

I been catching movies latley on Hipasat 30w on Cubavision - last night I caught the last part of "Armored" - not even on pay channels yet After that was "Fire Trap". So if anyone is looking for a good bird to point at - 30w is one

Well Armored was the third movie (they have 5 on saturday night) and therefore it was an encore, lol. Only the first one is always a new movie and almost always a USA made one and BTW I did not like last nite's.

Do not forget the baseball game for the championship today at 1:15 pm on Tele Rebelde (series tied 2-2). The stadium should be at full capacity like yesterday with 55 000 fans cheering for Industriales and the rest 8 millions cubans outside havana including the dead ones against them lol.

WOW! , they had to close the stadium doors at 11 am for a 1 pm game!!! because it was full already. People even camped outside from the night before (something I had never heard of before for a baseball game in Cuba) and fans were flowing to the stadium as early as 7 am. I still remember the long walk from my small town bus stop (1 km away the bus stop) to the stadium with thousands of us flowing like a big parade.

Well , 59067 paid a ticket yesterday , and today easily over 60 000 the announcers are saying. And still at least the hallways in the outfield bleachers are not full (I remember years ago big games Cuba vs USA were people were even standing in the hallways and noone could even walk (and no one wanted either lol) but at the time the admision was free therefore they only had a 60 000 estimate (55 000 seated) but I would say now after seeing this there were over 65 000 for those games). They are still looking for the ball that I think Frank Thomas hit out of the stadium BTW , lol.

They just said that this one today is even a bigger crowd than the one for the Baltimore Orioles vs Cuba game held in this stadium years ago (I was in Spain and have not even seen the 2 games yet). Probably the biggest ever and the fact that the local team , Industriales , have been out of the contention for the title for the last 4 years could have been a trigger this year. Besides they have came from behind against all odds.

Wow! the same hot girl with her girlfriends seated on the same seat behind home plate!, most be the girlfriend of one of the Local players I guess, lol.

2nd Ining , Industriales 2 - Villa Clara 0 . Home run with one man on base. Ruge Leon!!! (the locals are known as the Lions of the Capital)

Wow!!! This is truly a first in Cuba in the Last 50 years probably!!!. They just showed on TV a secuence of a double play at home plate on a LA Dodgers vs NY Mets game as a comparison to the similar double play at home plate yesterday when Industriales tried to score 2 runers at the same time (the first one was running too slow and stopped) but both got our by the catcher Pestano. Well maybe during the Orioles game 10 years ago they showed some MLB plays or videos but this is unusual in Cuba.

Will we see a full MLB game on Tele Rebelde in the near future or at least more footage?, who knows?, lol. Although usually they only report the World Series winner on a very short news usually on the Juventud Rebelde newspaper, and they only started in the last few years.

I have certainly been enjoying Hispasat for quite a long time. I love the movies on Cubavision, they are not always the genre of movies that I like, but they are always without commercials and they are in English (for me that is important as I understand very little Spanish). And Baseball! Yahoo! You can watch baseball in any language. PRESS TV is another channel that I watch from time to time.

Obviously, west coaster's will not be able to catch this sat, but I would urge anyone east of Arizona, Utah, Wyoming and Montana to try to pull it in. A large part of Mexico (east of Baja) and some portion of Sakatchewan should have it, too. East of Quebec, there appears to be a dramatic loss in power, and quickly.

I am able to pick up 58 FTA TV channels and 50 radio channels from Hispasat and they are almost all strong signals for me in Nebraska.

We west coasters are falling into the ocean, enjoying 4.4 earthquakes (just last week), and unable to see Cubavision!

30°w is one bird I often recommend to anyone mid-west or beyond.
Never seen it, but sure sounds like a keeper! - :up

This is a spring project for me. Since the ol' 18 incher gets no more freebies, it's comin' down! I'll be using that switch port for yet another 1.2m CM...
hopefully pointed at 30w, if the trees in my backyard won't be an issue!

remember the farther north in the US you go the lower the elevations get so being realistic here in the Northern Plains Minnesota will be the farthest west you can go to get Hispasat. Its a 9 elevation.

Eastern Montana shows a 1.5 elevation

Iceberg, not only in the US , also everywhere , lol. Mine is 19.6.

Game is tied 3-3 in the bot of the 8th due to a very controversial save on second base (in my opinion should have been out) that favoured Industriales. It almost also established a first since Villa Clara manager was protesting the decision and wanted a video review (calling it an injustice) but the rules do not allow a video review in Cuba , not yet I guess (most games are not broadcast on TV unlike MLB). Umpires gathered together with the baseball comission inside their room and decided to keep the ruling save. well it changed the whole game in my opinion. Thanks to the umpire mistake (the runner was blocking the view and even after several slow motions is hard to tell but seems like it touches the letters of the runner's shirt) Industriales managed to tie the game. One VC player was ejected for protesting heavily, well insulting the umpire probably.

Well if even the "dead" were against Industriales before, after this , I guess even the cows around the country will add to the millions against them (if there are still cows in Cuba), lol. The baseball tournament in Cuba has always been Industriales vs the rest of the country. There are famous rivalries in tournaments around the world in several sports but it usually involves team vs team not 1 team vs the rest, lol. What I mean is the rest of Cuba is always watching because they want to see them loose, lol.

Yes, even here in Nebraska my elevation is just barely over 8 degrees. So, you have to take each location in a case by case basis and this especially as you move further north.

I always like to take the EIRP charts as a "theoretical" guide. The real-world application is always the best and final judge of this.

I would like to hear from others who are receiving this sat as to how far into or beyond the boundaries of the EIRP charts they are managing it and with what size of dish and what type of equipment. To perform such an investigation and provide any accurate results, we would have to have many people, all with identical equipment and reporting their results in an identical manner. That would be the proper way to conduct such a survey, but I doubt we could ask for that much accuracy and that good of a control group.

Just for fun, let's try this over the spring and summer months this year and see what kind of data we do come up with as an UN-scientific project. I will post a new thread for this if anyone can or wants to join in.

Where should a thread like this be posted for best results? Here in the FTA Shack or in the main FTA discussion area?

According to TheList, my elevation for Hispasat is 23.3... not too bad, 58w is the farthest eastern bird I've gotten (on C-Band) with my 7.5 footer. As long as the trees aren't a problem, a Ku dish at 30w should be do-able.
Although, if needed, I can always break out "Mr. Chainsaw"! :up

HISPASAT 30.0°W EIRP CHART TEST

For anyone who can and wishes to sport along in an unscientific endeavor, I would like to test the accuracy of the EIRP maps and charts just to see what we can come up with.

We will be testing Hispasat 1C/1D at 30.0°W so some of you may not think that you can not participate due to your location. Contrary to this, I want you to attempt it and report that you either “definitely cannot” receive a signal or otherwise (the purpose is to test the boundaries). So, please don’t take it for granted that you cannot receive a signal from this satellite. Make an attempt, if you can and report your most accurate results.

Basically, I am curious to see how well we can trust these EIRP charts in real world scenarios. Since Hispasat at 30.0°W has some definitie boundaries for us to test, but is a strong signal overall, we might find some interesting information here.

OKay, I have no idea what I just witnessed on Tele Rebelde channel, but it was FUNNY as heck!

A rather large lady (naked) but in cartoon form so no pornographic thing here, walked into a shower and pulled the curtain and sang/hummed. Coming out the outer side of the cartoon shower, she dried and patted with talc and then checked her belly-button quizically. She pulled out a cartoon screw and exclaimed "Hmmm?" and then her butt fell off!

I dang near died laughing!!!! I wasn't expecting to see that! It was hilarious! Something like what you would expect from Monty Python or Benny Hill.

lol Had mine out today, chain saw that is. Not satellite related but I do have that spring time itch to find me some new satellites. Hispasat might be a bit of a stretch for me here but it might be fun to try!
I have Intelsat 9 at 58° on the C-Band with no problem and it's in a spot with lower elevation than the house. If I put a 30" dish up on my antenna tower on the house I just might be able to do it. We just spent a week in the Dominican and I was amazed at how good some of the channels were..........and in English with subtitles.
