I'm moving to a new apartment in a few weeks, and am losing my view of the southern sky. I've had Dish for a year now, and have been pretty pleased with the service. Next time I move it will likely be to a house, where I can put up a dish, and I'll likely want to sign back up with dish at that time.

Is there anything I can do/say when I terminate my service so I'll be eliigible for the "good" promotions down the road? I've read some things that say I can never be a "new" customer again, and I've read other things that say if I leave on good terms, and wait a certain amount of time, they'll consider me a new customer.

So what should I do? Also, how far in advance do I need to call to cancel? I've got almost a week of overlap between my leases, and want as little "down-time" as possible.

Also, a big thanks to everyone who posts here regularly. I've learned an incredible amount over the last year.

Have you checked with the apartment folks to see if they could give you a unit facing the south, or are they all east/west oriented?

Unfortunately, I'm constrained by lease start and end dates. A bummer, but a small price to pay to continue to have a roof over my head.
