Moving ViP211z between rooms

At my cabin I have a 1000.2 antenna, a ViP211z, and wires running to the bedroom and living room. I would be moving the one receiver between the rooms. Assuming the receiver would need to reboot and switch test (?) each time it was moved, could someone please explain the pros and cons of:

1. Run home runs from each room to ports 1 & 2 on LNB
2. Run one wire from LNB to a splitter connected to each room (I'm not sure this will even work).

If a splitter would be better, which one should I order?

No splitters. A home run to each location and you should NOT have to do a switch test when moving the receiver between the two locations.

A splitter can work, if it's a good enough one to pass the high frequencies from and power back to the LNBF, i.e. a satellite not RF splitter; and you have exactly one receiver. A splitter will never work if there's more than one receiver.
 
Have you looked into a UHF transmitter or HDMI splitter? You won't get HD with a UHF transmitter, but if it's just for the bedroom maybe that's not so important.

I just picked up an HDMI splitter on Amazon ( Amazon product ASIN B01HHZ75XK ). But I also have a UHF transmitter like this one that works great and no need to run cables. If you are using one receiver for two locations and moving it you are def. not watching two different programs at once. For that same application I use what is linked above. Never need to move the receiver and take a UHF remote from room to room or get one for each room and that is all you need


GW3DHDKIT This is the part number for what Iogear system I use. Some reviews indicate signal problems. I have basically none. When I first set it up I had the receiver at the second TV too close to the TV and did get a few drop outs. Moved it about 6" and have not had an issue since. I am transmitting from a receiver in the basement family room to a TV in a mail floor bedroom that is also about 35' feet away by a straight line in addition to the elevation change (floor) and wall that in penetrates.

The wind card is the UHF remote. Don't think the receiver you mention has one standard but not sure. I am using it on a 722K

I am pretty sure that the ViP211z is infra-red only. Dish did make a converter so you could use a UHF remote to control an infra-red receiver, but I don't think they sell that anymore. A Wally uses UHF remotes (40.0 or newer, or at least that is all I have ever used with the Wally. The Wally came with a 52.0 remote.) so maybe the OP should consider switching to a Wally in order to easily mirror one receiver on two TV's without having to move the receiver each time.
