I just called Dish to get an ala carte channel added on, and they requested that I give them all the regular info, name, address, phone, blood type, etc., but then on top of that they wanted a receiver number! I asked them why, you have all my other info, and my receivers are both connected online. He said it is a new security measure. This was a guy in the Philippines. I hung up and called back, and this time got a guy in India (I even tried the tech support trick). He wanted the same thing. After getting upset, I finally gave him a number. He said I could put a PIN on the account if I wanted to avoid this in the future. (which I did)

It looks like the NAZI AUDIT department has infiltrated the call centers. Has anyone else encountered this?

I've been using a PIN for the past couple of months. Dish is not the only company doing it. My insurance company and credit card company are doing it also.

What do you mean PIN on the account ? Never heard about it...

Yep. I have had a PIN on my account for quite awhile now. It's a good idea so that nobody except YOU can make important changes to your account. And there is less fuss about the whole thing. No R and S numbers to worry about.

Sometimes they will ask for the last four of your social security number as well or instead of your PIN. They just started accepting the last four instead recently.

Yeah, I had to deal with that for the first time recently when they were screwing up my bill. I set up a pin with them as it wasn't possible for me to get the info they wanted as all receivers were recording at the time.

I have had a PIN on my account since day one in 1994. It's the same on my Online Account and every time I call and here's the kicker, insist on American Tech Support (as per the CEO's office), then when finally connected, I am asked for my PIN Number, probably since it's on file with them, then we conduct whatever business necessary with no interrogation.
