My quest to get DLNA working on the Hopper...

FYI - I called my installer who did the Hopper upgrade, and asked if he could drop off an HIC. He just dropped it off, and I hooked it up at the Joey, using the pass-thru. (Much easier than dealing with the tap and all those wires at the Hopper in the EC.)

Home Media now works from both the Hopper and Joey. OnDemand is still working fine, so it didn't break that. Weather seems to be unavailable. But, I was having an intermittent issue with that app from the get-go.

So I never really looked to see if my videos on my WHS2011 server worked.

I'm looking at what I have on there and the only files that don't have question marks on them are some mp4 files that I think are h.264 compressed and 1080p. All the other files, mostly xvid downloads, don't work. Pictures and music play fine though, so that's something.

Im using serviio and it works well with macs. Plus it's free. Serviio media server

Another thumbsup for Serviio. Ive tried PlayOn, Twonky, and TVersity, and I liked Serviio best. Not only does it have a WHS dashboard connector whcih makes it super easy to use on my server, it also is the only one I know of that can read in XBMC NFO files. My entire media library is scraped for use in XBMC in my home theater PC and I am anal retentive about accuracy of the information. So with Serviio, it just reads the NFO files and I know that all movie information and cover art is accurate.

Mine is still working fine this morning. But, I'm only using it for standard Windows 7 media streaming. No fancy server apps like TVerculosis, Fabio, or RayOn.

I do have a major annoyance, though. I keep my system locked to hide all the BS channels, which removes guide and list clutter. But, this seems to have also locked the Home Media app. Is there a way to not include Home Media from the system locks?

yup, i noticed this as well. i just went into parental controls to get rid of the porn stations listed in the guide, and then every-time you want to do something (including trying home media) you have to enter the code..

really lame

Yup I did the same thing... only blocked the adult channels from the guide... There should be an option to PW protect the Home Media or not.

I use both Tversity and Windows 7 WMP sharing - and neither is seen right now.

I like the password to access it - that way the kids don't get in there and monkey with things.

Well, there's my problem, then. With the hopper directly connected to my ethernet, the MoCA network is a separate segment. I don't see any broadcast on the wire from the hopper, so I assume it must be broadcasting (looking) for the DLNA servers on the MoCA network only. That's the bug. Upside is this should be fixable in the Hopper's software.

Mine magically started working last night. I do not have a HIC and I only tried from the hopper, I doubt the joeys would have worked without the HIC. The hopper was able to see both the windows media server and the tversity server.

So, the HIC arrived today. I went to install, no tap.... So, I had to start a chat session with Dish. They won't send me a tap, they will only send a tech. The tech comes out Sunday.

This thing has a pass-through on it, but the tech said "you must have a tap".

At the Hopper location you must use a tap. At a Joey location you can do passthrough.

Same here. Except that they had shipped me a HIC and the tech showed up with a HIC before UPS got here, so now I have two HIC's.
