Every time we turn on the heater, microwave, hairdryer the television get's a million little pixels all over it from our Directv. Occasionally it wil do it on it's own without anything electronic to start it up. We have it hooked to a RF converter because the TV is old as well as a Wii. Any help to understanding what's going on is greatly appreciated.

It's either a ground issue or RF interference. Buying a new TV and ditching the RF converter would be my first step.

Man would I like to see heather.
Gah I wanted to post something positive to help, but all I can come up with was something about the heather. If heather is anything like those other "named toys" it might be EMI
But as bill said, sounds like a grounding issue.
