Slow 30 sec fast fwd no continuous ff

Have new DTV HR20 for 5 days skip fwd seemed to be working until today. Had put in code to switch to 30skip. worked fine at first now it is pausing and moving like 1 sec ahead if anything and holding it down to go to end doesn't work and the continuous fast forward is not working at all. all other buttons fine. Any suggestions?

The first thing to do is to do a restart, using the menu.

It sounds like it might be a hard drive issue, but I would try the reboot, through the menu, like jdspencer recommended.
