I saw on another site, a forum for avatars. One thread was a sticky on what programs to use to make your own avatars. The other was a continual thread on Request A Personalized Avatar....we'll make one. Several people are in there all the time making avatars for people. Many people post a picture or two that they want their name combined with, especially with animation. Others say, I am a locksmith, so they find an animated spinning key gif and put on moving name. Pretty simple for those that are good at it. Surely, there are people with as many members that are in this great place, that are good at creating these small animated gifs. Having the avatars created are for free. I would suggest that the artists put their signature on the created by section of the gif code. Maybe have a gallery for each artists, 10 Avatars Showcased and Last 10 Avatars. This would give the artists recognition for their work.
The way it improves satelliteguys.us is:
1) Makes the forums look nicer with nice avatars.
2) Makes this site stand out from most sites. People here are always more helpful than most forums anyway. Well, I know this from the FTA areas.
3) People feel more at home, because their profile is more personalized.
4) It is ways to increase supporting members for the site.
Ways to increase revenues. Options:
1) You can only post a request in the Avatar forum as a supporting member.
2) Anyone can request an avatar. But in a sticky, you are reminded that you can only have animated avatars, if you are a paid supporter. When they see a cool animated avatar created for them, they will obviously want to use it on this site, so they will pay the small fee to become a paid supporter.
I would suggest the 2nd option. I already plan to become a paid supporter, just money is really tight. But I like others, after getting an animated avatar, would find some way to get the money, even if I had to miss a few meals.
Of course, I would like to be the first in line to get an avatar created, as I want one that reflects my hobby as an FTAwe to draw others to the hobby. I already have my ideas, which wouldn't take the right person much time, but I am not creative enough myself.
