I psted that you should buy from a Local Retailer to support your Local Town and not buy through a National retailer.

I do not see that post any more.

Before my post there was several saying Expert Satellite and serveral others -they all are gone also.

Maybe it is my computer or I am seeing things, but logically even today it is strange that of the 16,000plus members here there are only posts listed for ValueElectronics, if that many bought from Value Electronics and no one else, I would think the others would not be in business anymore. It just does not add up.

I still say support your local retailer, if something goes wrong, they often have a local store front and a local number to call. Buy local. You will get much better service after the commision check is cut.

P.S. When I say buy local, I do not mean your big box stores either (they are national chains) , I mean your local small DIsh or Direct TV retailer, there in the Yellow pages.

I can assure you the only posts we delete are ones dealing with: hacking, harrassment, and spam.

I would trust VE over a local retailer in that VE goes the extra mile to make sure your service and product are the best that they can be. You know what Circuit City would tell me if I bought a receiver from them and needed help with it? "Call Directv and ask them." VE would say "Let me take care of this for you" or "This is what you need to do"

The local dealers here are scam artists, in that they will sell the average joe who doesn't know anything more than he really needs.

Hey there,

I was actually hoping to see some info here on actual "New customer deal" from directTVbut suddenly this discussion got completely off track... Maybe the staff/moderators could get back on track???

Thanks!

Local dealers can be just as big of a scam by preying on people that EXPECT local store fronts to be just what you described. I had a buddy in Memphis go through Bartlett Home Theater instead of VE as I said, JUST BECAUSE they were right down the street. They didn't do a decent install, didn't inform him of all his options for hardware or installation, led him to think that the original 18" single LNB dish was the most updated dish and flat out lied about DNS in his area. Go with the company that has numerous quality recommendations from verified sources with few & far between negatives. Cheap doesn't mean better, bigger doesn't mean better, and neither does closer or brick & mortar store front. That being said stay away from Rapid Satellite and VMC satellite for sure.

About 3 minutes of web research netted the following:

Here are the new customer OFFERS from D* own website.

Here is the STANDARD D* new customer offer from VE.

Here is the HDTV D* new customer offer from VE.

Call VE or D* regarding any expired or date extensions of offers. No matter who you deal with ask questions, save all receipts, and get everything in writing before you sign/pay!

Ok I have to ask becasue this seems quite disingenous to me. How can a national retailer be more responsive than the local. (in my case, as I live in Stockbridge, GA, the local guy is about 3 miles from my house on N. Henry Blvd). I can understand the national offering a better price, but service? Would not VE or any other national DirecTV dealer have to *contract* with *some* local dealer for installation at *my house*?

Earlier today I was at my local Wal-Mart. A local dealer (Lance Meads from Digital Equipment Solutions) had his DirectTV tent set up just outside the front door. According to his brochure (& what he told me directly) I can get 4 rooms of basic receivers installed for free wtih package commitment. (I have a 4 room 301 E* set up now & I want DirecTivo & two 40 hour Tivo's will cost me 99.99ea) As an aside, he told me in order to watch some channel while recording another, each Tivo would require 2 lines straight from the dish & that this may require some wall fishing (at additional cost), since I only have a 4 LNB Dish 500 with one line from the roof right now Is this true? I mean the part about the 2 lines (which would actually be a total of 4, I guess). I know that I would have to pay extra for any additional cable runs beyond a basic installation.

I see that VE (until the 9th of Jan) is offering 80hr Tivo's for 49.99 with rebate so that is "better" on the equipment (again, that is what I would expect) but what about the installation & service after install (if needed)?

p.s. At the current time, I have AT180, Locals & HBO with 4 receivers. This is $85.36USD per month. If anyone knows the DirectV package that is closest to this in price, it would be most appreciated.

You're not alone in noticing things like this.

No one is saying one is ALWAYS better or worse, but after the install you will no longer use the local guy for anything; you call D* directly. So why not get the best price up front? Just do some basic research.

This is Likely a YMMV situation.

Local dealers can be good and bad.. I know of 2 in town. one wanted me to give him 600 for the HD receiver alone that I got from Graham at VE for 299.

Other dealers could do much better im sure.

LOL, i just did a search for "expert satellite" a company that others have recommended and I found 15 threads about them including this one which compares them to value electronics and has good things to say about expert satellite.

Aah...your first post and it's dealing with consipracy theories. lol...

You did know that you can read these posts without being registered, didn't you? I've been reading for weeks and everybody here is totally in bed with VE. I'm with bobj - support your local retailer.

My comment was towards the content of your first post. And thanks for advising me of the fact that you can be registered but not post on this forum. :smug

If you are happy with your local retailer, then by all means support them (and feel free to post the name of the establishment).

No big deal. Some people really rip on you here if you have a differing opionion.

I like my local Tweeter. The guys didn't leave until they checked every transponder signal. I kinda had to shoo them off.

I would make sure that the online retailer is a member or is listed in the better business beural (spelling). Also known as BBONLINE.

Expert Sat is.

Value E is here:

http://www.bbbonline.org/r.cfm?ID=121100340

Also you should check this for any local retailers also.

In other words there are lots of good places to buy.

I would buy from a local retailer first comparing the best price on the web against Expert Satelite. You can get the best deal online.

Do your homework, compare VE, Expert Sat, and your local retailer, then decide.

I thought I should answer directly to Bob and all others who wonder why this forum strongly supports me and my company. After many months of participation in the forum I asked Scott if he would consider dealer advertising and several months later Scott was ready to do so he invited me to be a DIRECTV SatelliteGuys advertiser.

All other forums do not permit dealers to promote their company. Scott feels differently, he feels that a supporter can have the forums support as a value back. Most importantly, Scott has hand selected my company as he knows my dedication to his forum and it's members and sees that this strong dealer support further benefits his forum exclusively which gives the SatelliteGuys.us forum one benefit that no other forum offers. I would never let Scott or any member down. I use all of the power and resources of my staff and company to ensure all members 100% satisfaction. SatelliteGuys members have the full power and support of my highly valued, powerful and very highly connected close relationship with DIRECTV.

The culture of my company has always been to deliver the highest level of customer service, honest system and technical advise and quality installation work. I took this opportunity of sponsorship very seriously, I have taken on the additional responsibility to ensure all SatelliteGuys members get absolutely the best DIRECTV experience possible, no matter where any member purchased their equipment or service from.

In spite of my dedicated efforts to do everything to the highest standards, sometimes something still goes wrong. I look at a problem as an opportunity to right a wrong so I fix the problem and compensate my customer for the mistake.

We are the only National company that maintains our own database of Certified SBCA and insured satellite technicians. We pay above the industry scale and ask our technicians to do the best quality installation they can do, spend time on explaining the operation of the remote control and when they are overbooked, not to reschedule our customers.

And BTW, I know and agree that American and Expert Satellite are excellent DIRECTV dealers as well as the vast majority of local independent dealers. In fact, it's their excellence and my SatelliteGuys dedication that pushes me to differentiate my company and strive for excellence in everything we do.

To Bob and all SatelliteGuys members I say to you, call my company to truly experience the highest level of honest and highly educated customer service.

-Robert

FWIW i had a problem with directv shipping me a replacement hd stb,
i keep calling directv and they kept telling that its on back order, for almost 3-4 weeks

so i tried to ask Robert from VE if he could help me out, he personally called me at home, actually it was late in the day, and i gave him my info, and he emailed directv and to put my stb order on hight priority, and next day, i hear directv shipped my stb,

and i got my stb in 3 days,

So i couldn't do it without robert's help, i don't know how more long i would'of have to wait more, if it wasn't robert,
And BTW i didn't not even order from Robert, and he helped me still

Again Robert, if you reading this, thanks again

Hey Robert,

How did you do at the craps tables in Vegas <G> ;)

BTW, finally got everything straightened out w/my step dad's install in Florida. Thanks for your help!

Andy

Andy,

I stayed away from Dice and just played poker. I lost $150. over my 4 day stay, but saved aver $600. by getting the poker casino room rate. The Poker manager reduced my room rate from $289.99 per day to $63.00.

Very happy your step dad's install finally was fixed.

BTW, my sn. tech. Al says your Avatar does not resemble you whatsoever.

Re: avatar. Hehehehe. I guess I'm not as cute as I was as a baby.
I'll post a recap of my experience....when I get a little time.
BTW: With 3 new HD receivers less than 2 weeks old, I'm glad (I hope?) that D* will be taking care of those w/Mpeg 4 & HD issues when they arise......or would you suggest returning them all? Lol!!!
