I just purchased a DirecTV package on Wednesday. The tech arrived at 9:45 am the next day to install. The package that I ordered and had verified 3 times was the $65.99 package less the rebate and add back in the additional receiver would be $44.99 for the first year, then increasing to regular price for the second year. This also includes Showtime/Starz free for the first 3 months. When I ordered, again, my price was verified as $44.99 and that I did not want to order HD service, which would be an additional $10. When the tech arrived, he brought HD equipment. I immediately called and said that I did not order HD. I was told that it was needed in order to receive local channels but I would not be paying for HD service. So, of course, the tech installed the equipment. Later that evening when I finally received an email, I went to my account online so I could do my rebate. It stated that I owed $84.99. I understand that the rebate doesn't show yet, but it showed my original package price of $75.99, so I am being charged for HD. They are telling me that if I want to 'upgrade' my receivers to standard definition it would cost me a $69 fee, a $99 fee and two charges of $50!

My bottom line question is: Do I have to have HD service and equipment in order to get the local channels? My friend who lives nearby has DirecTV and does not have the HD and receives everything with no problem...I am very confused here. If being the case, why when I said that I did not want HD service was I not told it was mandatory. And why would I be told that I needed HD equipment but wouldn't be charged for HD service.

Sorry to rant, but I am frustrated with my experience already!

Maybe with the help you are providing "offline" they can up your box size without you having to pay and maybe be "on the hook" with DirecTV and company rules and such. Shoot Scott an PM and see if he can hook you up.

1. your not being charged for HD.
2. the new customer rebates are applying
3. HD boxes are requried for your locals so you will not be charged for hd
4. Your Credit for the freeshowtime has not applied it so the bill was higher it looks like it applied now just need to get your other credits to apply so make sure to fill in that rebate.

I looked at your account you only need hd access if you want hd channels mpeg4 equipment aka hd boxes is required for your area but you will not be charged for hd access due to your area.

I get everything straighten out with the OP I looked at this account he has the mpeg4 local tag so I know he gotten some bad info but I get it straighten out I give him a call if i need too
