Here is the final count guys. 14 + discovery hd + show E & W + 21 exclusive + VOOM Special channel (inside VOOM) = 39 :!:

This is how VOOM is counting their 39 HD channels... No more Mystery...Does this looks good or what?

Add the OTA channels:

(1) ABC-HD
(2) CBS-HD
(3) NBC-HD
(4) UPN-HD
(5) WB-HD
(6) PBS-HD

This could be a heaven made HD dream...

Sean, as mentioned in a reply to your post on AVSForum, I too, do not consider Inside Voom an HD channel. Nor are east and west coast feeds of the SAME programming additional content in the true sense, they're just time delays. Lastly, NFL Network has one hour per week. Big whoop.
Lava Lamp channel is not really much to hang your hat on either.
Just want to keep your exuberance in perspective.
Hopefully, by the time they really launch full service in February they'll put together a decent package. Lowering their price would certainly help.

AndyMon was that you. :D ? Anyway, I understand your concern and believe me I am not jumping up and down on this. It is just more information to add for the benefit of everyone in this forum and other forums. Here is my response at AVSforum for the benefit of everyone.

I am not saying that this the "List" of the 39 HD channels. Your points are very good regarding Inside Voom and PPV-HD (adult). As more information is made public we will have a better idea of the 39 hd channels. Maybe Hdnet and HDnet Movies will be the last two channels that will fill in the blank if you take Inside Voom and PPV-HD channel out of the list. Again all of this is subject to change as VOOM releases more information.

My main reason for putting this list togethere was that it was already on VOOM's website hidden under the source code plus give us those interested in HD programming something more to think about. This list might not be accurate as to the final 'list' of HD channels but it does make you salivate a little

I am not a VOOM subscriber and I am on the fence waiting for more HD channels to be added. What will make me jump over? Of course, more HD channels that what I am getting right now. To me the 21 exclusive channels are nice but not a must right now to jump over. If Voom does add a list similar or comparable to the above by 2/04 and my current subscriber does not, I assure you that I will really consider jumping over the fence.

Ken H at AVSforum posted the following:

Excerpted from Broadcasting & Cable, by Ken Kerschbaumer

Va-Va-Va Voom!

The Playboy Channel in HD is expected to launch on Voom in January, and original HD productions are already under way in the network’s Glendale, Calif., studios for programs like Fallen One, Night Calls and Private Calls.

Cablevision has picked up the cost of the new production gear in exchange for exclusive rights to the service for two years.

Here is the thread where it was posted. This is posted on a thread that talks about HD porn so if you are offended by porn do not go to this thread. Continue at your own risk.

Nope, Sean. Not me but I agree with the guy.
Thanx for the info. I'm watching v* closely but refuse to be a beta tester and pay $750 for the right. If they want me to be a beta tester they need to give me a box for next to nothing or be willing to refund the entire $750 30 days after their service is fully up and running relatively flawlessly, which won't be for a while.
As it stands, I'd be giving up a ton of channels that I want and watch right now (even if they are in SD) and (eventually) paying more $$. Not a good deal for me.
Even when they are up and running full bore their offerings may still be limited compared to what I want and have now. A slew of mediocre HD doesn't thrill me anymore. I want substance. I'm not sure if they plan on delivering that yet. I still don't view v* as a replacement stand alone service and as an adjunct they're far too expensive, IMO. Others apparently disagree and that's fine for them. I'll let them be the guinea pigs and learn from their struggles. If it turns into a great service then I'll go for it. Until then I wait and watch.

A lot of us are playing the "wait and see" game with Voom. Now that the 921 will not be released until december or maybe next year and superdish is not available to some regions of the U.S., Voom could look very attractive by 2/04 even without a DVR! Again, let's hope for the stability of the Voom receiver.

Voom, indeed, could be a very expensive proposition if you look at it from the 'add-on' point of view. $99 for 21 exclusive HD channels and all packages (39 HD channel total) = $2.53 per channel per month. I am assumming that you could careless about the SD channels and get them from another source.

If you look at it from the point of view of being your only satellite provider then there are sd channels that will not be covered that might interest each one of us.

For those that are only interested in HD channels, it will be paradise...if Voom delivers the 39 HD channels or a line up of HD channels similar to the one posted above... We'll see...

P.S. keep in mind that they will double their capacity of SD channels next year (last quarter) once they changed to mpeg4. Again things will change and will be changing...

Just to give some further evidence that these channels might be true if you go to :

http://www.voom.com/use_it/program_guide.html

That is the web page for the program guide. Load this page and then type in the address bar this :

javascript:alert(document.lastModified)

The click return.

It comes up with a date of 11/10/03. This is the date this web page was last updated. That means they added some of these channel listings as of Monday 11/10/03.

Well, Voom just updated the program guide found at http://www.voom.com/use_it/program_guide.html and took out all the references to all the HD channels mentioned above. The last date they updated the page November 18, 2003.

Has Voom said anything about what they will do with subscribers who are out of range of any OTA channels?

Yes, you are SOL. They say that OTA is limited by location and availability.

I hate to say it but you will be out of luck. VOOM has no intention of carrying any OTA channels nationally or locally. Only OTA channels if you are within range. Are you sure you can't get anything from any direction?

Try this site to see if you cannot get any OTA: ANTENNA POINTING GUIDE

local channels

How close do you have to be to get locals I'm about 50 miles should I get locals ?

You probably would be ok, depending on your line of sight. I am 20 miles from the towers here, and I am getting a signal strength of 100 with the stealth antenna that Voom provides. I have a very good line of site.

In the worse case Voom will upgrade to a better antenna at that distance I would think.
