I just got my new Slimline 5lnb dish in the mail and am going to install it so I can get all the fun HD channels.

I see it has 4 cables running from the transponders, but I only have 1 receiver. Do I need a multi channel switch or something or can I just run 1 of the cables to my receiver and be ready to roll?

Is there anything else I should be aware of? I am replacing a 3-lnb model dish.

The LNB has a built in 4 way switch so if all you have is one receiver then just connect your cable and you're ready to go, just least the other three ports open.

Note that you must have a modern receiver and a suitable subscription to pick up any HD programming. Receivers require one wire and DVRs require two wires.

DIRECTV HD programming is exclusive to these models:

HD Receivers-

H20, H21, H22, H23 (DIRECTV HD Receiver)

HD DVRs -

HR20, HR21, HR22, HR23 (DIRECTV Plus HD DVR)

If this dish is replacing the Phase III 3 lnb dish (for 101, 110, and 119), then you'll need to re-align the 5LNB. The Ph III primarily aims at the 110 sat and the 5 LNB aims at 101.

You forgot the HR21-Pro altho its probably safe to assume he doesnt have that. But yes, point taken, if you dont have one of these receivers, as in if you have an old samsung one or something like that, the new dish doesnt do anything for you... your paying for hd without getting all the channels as the old receiver cant view the 2 new birds even though your dish can.

Except that you also cannot see the HD channels without it as well.
It takes Both the newer dish as well as the new rec.
Having the older dish won't see the 99 and 103 orbital slots.
