New to Directv's DVR

Just upgraded to DTV's multi room DVR from a Directivo.

Do They have a buffer? can I pause live TV from the regular receiver? Or do i have to record it and then hit pause?

I have 2 DVR's and one regular reciever on 3 different TV's.

They do buffer for 90 minutes. You can also use the "doubleplay" option and buffer both tuners for 90 minutes

Cool. How? Can't find a setting to turn buffers on.

Press the down arrow twice. Then you can put each buffer on a separate channel. Then you use the down arrow to change between the two. The dual buffer will stop working if you don't use it for two hours. A side affect of this is that you can use the previous channel feature to switch between channels (buffer resets) on each buffer. So if you didn't really care to buffer two shows you can effectively have four channels to switch around.

Another feature you may not have found is Quick Tune. Press the up arrow and you get a display where you can enter 9 channels for quick tuning,.

the buffer automatically is on for whatever channel you select. But unless you do doubleplay option it dumps the buffer when you switch channels

You are correct about having to hit "Record" before you can use "Pause" etc.

Yep, no hard drive of it's own so it has to use the DVRs drive.

the directv dvr is superior. it rocks in every way. press right arrow twice and mess with the widgets as well.
