what for these FTA receivers are used ? What is leagal and what is not leagal ?

FTA = Free To Air, remember the C-Band (BUD's) FTA is the 21st century equivalent. There are channels and feeds from all over, no programming like dishnetwork or direcTv or cable but interesting stuff and it's all free... No Hack Talk is allowed in these forums! Read the stickys at the top of this forum...

Those channels are channels FROM the US. If you look at what satellites they are on, you will see that some of them are on the other side of the earth which means you can't get them.

confused

link says that Free TV from United States and and it contains all cnn, abc, cbs etc. really all of them are free ?

Sure, they're free if you can "see" the satellite that they are on, but a lot of them in that list you can not get because those particular satellites are on the other side of the planet. The channels on that list originate from the US, it doesn't mean that they are being transmitted to the US. That list can be misleading.

I should have posted this web site instead

http://www.global-cm.net/MPEGlistKuBandUS.html

Some of the people are after the feeds (sports) I like the PBS and RTN
RTN is on g10r http://www.lyngsat.com/galaxy10r.html
Scroll down the list untill you get to the five digit numbers on the left side (5 is KU and 4 is C-BAND)
then you can click on the blue letters and it will bring you to their website where you can see their daily programming.
Have any questions feel free to ask.

A basic answer to this question is that if a channel is not encrypted, or "in the clear", it is legal to receive it. If a channel is encrypted (like most of Dish Network, for example), it is not legal to receive it. As for which is which, a receiver with factory firmware installed will not receive any illegal (encrypted) signals. One with 3rd party "hacked" firmware will, and is therefore in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which prohibits reverse engineering of encryption or copy protection schemes.
