Just cancelled dish network and considering direct tv. Used to have vip722 from dish. Is there a comparable DVR in direct tv? do we get a choice?

Also is there any other particular things I should specifically ask them about? How much is the contract period? How fast will the installation happen? is it better to order directv online or go thro' local retailer?

Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

No comparable DVR on Direct as far as two room viewing. As for choice you will get whatever equipment is on the installer's truck when he shows up. If you order a DVR you will get what ever model they have in stock (all models within a category are basically similar i.e. standard tuner, HD tuner, standard DVR, HD DVR)

Contract is two years for HD or DVR and I believe 18 months for standard def box.

Use a Local Retailer if you have on close by.. Faster service usually. And they are much more willing to go the extra mile to get you what you want.
