Newbie USB/EHD questions

Well my 622 hard drive took a dump yesterday and I lost alot of cool stuff I had recorded that obviously is gone forever.

My receiver still works but I cant access the DVR or pause live tv, a new receiver is on the way.

I want to get a USB hard drive and enable the USB port on my new receiver.

Any recommended size/HDD brands ?
If my receiver fails will the EHD work with a new receiver ?
Do program copy to an EHD or just transfer ?

Could be your EHD is OK, but the receiver can't access it since it has gone bad. Try it when you get the new one. Programs are transfered, not copied.
