Hello this is my first post, though I've been lurking for months, trying not to ask too many dumb questions. I've seen a lot of N.F.L. fans sick of the co$t of the season ticket. On this topic I have a few questions:

1) Is there an excell file(or something of the like) that lists the "team" "station(s)" "fta y/n" "bird" "transponder/other essential info" "min dish size(to eliminate that, - can i use my old 18 inch disk question)" "LBN/type" "etc" "etc".

2) Are kpbi, and kuil available on true FTA? If so what bird? what equiptment do you recomend. I'm in the northeast, central NY, zip 13476. I would like to get the most out of my fta system. I dropped DirecTTV(problems w/ locals quality) and found that I could get my locals in HD for free with a yagi. I was beyond ashamed for my ignorance. I've seince put away the money I was paying them, apx($110.00/month).

3) Can all/most newer PVR's record OTA as well as FTA? I'm considering a Sonicview 360 elite to start with, have also considered the SV 8000 HD because I do have a 65" HD DLP as my football TV. I've also been interested in a nFusion box. .. for obvious reasons.

Any and all info welcome; thanks in advance,
Töm

Tommu,
You might want to post this in the Free To Air (FTA) section.
Or have a mod move it for you.

You'll get more info on your question there.

for NFL, i was pretty happy with my setup of G18 + AMC4 + OTA HD all being fed into my Diamond 9000HD. I never had a problem with the DVR features.

Don't know what obvious reason the nfusion has. It is $$$ compared to other receivers that can do what i mentioned above. I haven't seen any good reviews on them either.

ya, the Nfusion is pretty much garbage for FTA.
As far as NFL, I dont watch much, but a few games can be seen from the nets carried on G18.

There are 4 Fox Networks on G18
3 from Montana that show either the Vikes (or NFC Central) or the nat'l game
1 from Michigan that sadly shows the Lions

Thing to note is Equity (the owner of the stations) filed bankruptcy and sold off most fo the stations so they may not be there come fall. The Montana ones are sold to the folks that own the ABC affiliates in Montana (MaxMedia) who has a good infrastructure there.

KUIL is now an independent station

If I knew that I would be able to get the Lions this fall I would go out and get a FTA setup in the morning. :) I am one of the sad people that enjoy misery.

Your comment about them not being there this fall has be thinking about holding off right now. I would hate to spend the money and then they not be available next year.

The new owners of the fox marquette station are Packer fans so they will likely do everything they can to show the green and gold.

I think WMQF legally has to show the Lions game...ok maybe not legally like Fox Detroit or a secondary market has to but they show them "just because its the home team"
plus on cable in Marquette they get WLUK from Green Bay so they show the Packers on there

I don't think it's so much a legal issue or a home team issue as a contractual issue dictated by the NFL. The NFL is very strict about it's agreements with the networks, and dictates which local TV stations will carry which games. Even if the stations want to carry one team's games, they can't if the NFL says they can't. Some towns in northwest Pa used to clearly be in Steeler territory, but the NFL decided that they should be Bills territory, and so they show the Buffalo games. I guess that there are exceptions, where teams might have a choice, such as when a town with a station that carries the AFC is in an area where there are only NFC teams, then that AFC station seems to have the right to carry whatever team they want. Such as after the Colts left Baltimore, WGAL in York Pa used to carry the Steelers games, but I bet that they wouldn't now that there are disgusting Ravens nearby :) . But I think it's really annoying that the NFL decides which teams should be the home team of various TV markets, instead of letting the cities decide for themselves. But I guess it must have something to do with the teams sharing the TV revenues.
