As a long time Dish network sub I see it now.

Well the thing The NFL wanted too much money and wanted too much HD capacity we could not afford to give up. But hey we got you the red zone channel so forget about NFL ST
</Charlie>

I glad eveyong getting RZC now it is a good channel. I think though after all these years Charlie will use it as an excuse to weasel out of doing any serious bidding for NFL ST. Why because Charlie does not want to waste the transponder space nor does he want to pay the nfl the going rate for NFL ST.

So again glad your all enjoying RZC but it cant compare to NFLST.

Good points.

It can compare, here's how:
Cost: $300 for ST, or $6/mo for NFLRZ plus more channels.
Coverage: All the games for ST, all the good parts of the games for NFLRZ.

I, for one, DVR most games I'm interested in and skip to the good stuff, so this is a great deal for anyone interested.

or for people who flip over to the other game in progress while that game is in commercial. redzone was great for me. i got to see what i wanted, after watching sportscenter, i don't think i missed one highlight and actually caught some that they didn't show. so i like the channel. glad dish got that channel cause i would never buy ST.

I agree with sethwell. I would never pay the asking price for ST, but gladly will fork over the cash for RZC. It is the best part of each game for 1/15th the price.

Charlie can't do any serious bidding for the exclusivity of NFL Sunday Ticket nor be a "player" with MLB Extra Innings because Charlie--Dish/Echostar--can't afford it. They don't have that kind of money. ALL of Chuck's major competitors--Direct TV, TWC, Comcast, et al.-- have far deeper pockets than he. Chucky is the lone independent with a major presence against the huge media conglomerates. Please, to those of you who think it is just Charlie being cheap, you have to realize that if Charlie did win the bid for NFL ST, or did mange to be the few to offer MLB Extra Innings, he would immediately be out of business and the banks would own Dish and Echostar. Please, this is a simple matter of Charlie being a small fish against the Great White's of the media ocean. Until Charlie buys a huge media conglomerate--unlikely to get the credit from the investment banks to do so in this current financial crisis--or he sells to a major media conglomerate, don't expect to ever see NFL ST, or MLB EI unless NFL and MLB really decrease the price to carry it.

If Charlie could afford it, he would provide it because it does bring in subscribers. It took Dish years (2002 or 2003?) to get sufficient critical mass until it could afford to offer all, but NFL ST. Then MLB wanted the moon for MLB EI and stars for its new network that forced Charlie to give it up because there simply was no money in the Dish shallow pockets to meet MLB's new higher fees. Dish competes against much larger companies. The reason Charlie can be averse to high costs is because he can't afford to run the company any other way, money is that tight compared his much larger competitors. Yes, Dish can afford a billion dollar mistake and be OK after it, but his competitors can afford multi-billion dollar mistakes and still be much healthier and wealthier than Dish.

You can all stop complaining because it is of no use: like getting blood from a turnip, as the old saying goes. It's like complaining that since the millionaire up the hill subscribes to NFL ST and MLB IE, the guy who earns $20,000 per year who only has $15 left after all other bills are paid ought to somehow produce the money as if by magic so he too can subscribe to NFL ST and MLB IE. Please, Dish just does not have the really deep pockets.

What do you mean DISH Network can't afford Sunday Ticket....

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Sunday_Ticket"]NFL Sunday Ticket - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:SundayTicket.jpg" class="image"><img alt="SundayTicket.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c5/SundayTicket.jpg/130px-SundayTicket.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/c/c5/SundayTicket.jpg/130px-SundayTicket.jpg[/ame]

At $700 Million dollars per year the package is a rip off. Do the math, you got 16 "Sundays" in each football season that this package runs, which means that every Sunday Directv is paying out $43,750,000 to provide Sunday Ticket programming.

This is nothing more than a customer retention tool, as customers who must have this package have no other choice but to go with Directv.

The year Directv looses exclusive rights, will be the year there is massive churn on Directv. They could easily loose over a million customers over this!

The Red Zone channel was great. Watching Sportscenter this morning, I could watch everything and say, "I remember seeing that play live." I will probably start just watching it instead of my local broadcast games, haha.

Last I checked Dish and Echostar were public traded companys. So if he really wanted it, he could bid on it. Whether it is worth it or not is another question.

DishsubLA,

What crack are you smoking and where can i get some? As an Echostar stock holder the companies finanicals are solid. Charlie could afford 700 million a year on NFLST if he wanted to and still make back his money. As a long term dish sub for many years I watched make excuses for reason why we could not have NFL ST that is why I am excited you all had the chance to get Redzone as it a neat channel . But the only thing you said right was Charlie being anti media company which often hurts him more then helps.

Now as far as redzone being a replacement for NFL ST it just non DTV people making an excuse not to spen a few bucks.

Very few people pay full price for NFL ST.

There is 17 weeks of foot ball not 16. because ofthe one bye week everyone gets so techicnally there is 17 weeks of football games.

My problem is this if I am watching DN and have RZC on And there showing a great game like the denver one. I cant watch it as it was not airing in my area, rzc got me excited about the game and then enngh sorry denied. NFLST gives me the choice. I often have two games goin on 2 tvs and watching a 3rd via supercast on mylaptop while working.

So they really cant compare. But enjoy the RZC as it really is a good channel for watching clips of other games like sports center on crack.

I loved RedZone live, thought it was a great way to catch the action. I am glad Charlie doesn't cause my bill to skyrocket so he can subsidize ST. Claude's point is right on.

Thank you.

See the problem is that NFL ST makes money for DTV not a red line looser like most people think it is due to it high def requirements and 700mil per year pay outs.

Commerical NFL ST , NFL Stadium, and NFL ST Portiables rack in serious money for dtv .

Every stadium across the NFL is required to have NFL ST It found in the luxary boxes

Also the new NFL ST Portibles something pretty new that happens at select nfl stadiums for 40 dollars a game you get something that looks kinda like a pocket dish if dish even sells those any more. They then get nfl st while while at the game. It has become a popular item.

I know someone who pays 40 dollars for every game . 8 games a season x 40 there is 320 dollars form some one who doesnt even have dtv. Now granted who knows what NFL and what the DTV share is off all fo that . But it is really a myth that dtv loses money on NFLST

So really Charlie could make money on NFL ST. It is not the 700 million that charlie affraid of because 700 million is easy enought for Dish Net and Comcast and Time Warner So any of the 3 could out bid DTV it that none of them and I repeat none want to meet the NFL demands for carriage and HD. Cable doesnt have the bandwith and Charlie to cheap to put another bird up to handle NFLST.

But the point is this he is going to use rzc as an excuse not to bid on nflst personally I think that Dish and ( InDemand ) aka Cable should be bidding on nflst and at least make it competive But I can almost hear the charlie chat now.

NFLST is the keystone of DTV and Charlie just not man enough to pull it and become #1 Satellite Provider in the US.

You say everything will result in massive churn for Direct and continually predict net sub losses for them as well.

Well, I for one, am not that big a fan of NFL football. I will watch a full game every once in a while on Sunday, but I usually get bored by the pace.

Now along comes this RedZone channel, and I couldn't turn away. I wanted to flip back to the Cowboy game, but why should I? I saw all the good stuff on this channel! Really, it is a perfect solution for me. I will be watching a lot more football on Sundays thanks to this channel and quite frankly I was very pleasantly surprised. I originally subbed to the multi-sports package to see more college football, but this is a massive bonus.

Stonecold right on the mark. I subscribe to NFLST. I was offered it at $149 for the season with Superfan. It is a no brainer for that. I can DVR most of the cames and watch them later. Yesterday I watched Vikes/Browns, Lions/Saints and Seahawks/Rams. I can record the Shortcuts for the others.

They CAN compare and DO compare, as everyone has shown here. And you've even compared them...

If you want to pay 1000% more you get about 50% better programming.

hmmm...

Stonecolds dtv bill

MLB EI $0

NFLST $0

NFL ST SF $0

Stonecolds NY DTV bill

NFL Sunday ticket with Superfan 149.. ( most exisiting nfl st subs can getthis offer )

RZC 17 weeks x 5.99 = 101.81

Even at 300 dollars it still not that bad of a deal . when you compare it to the cost fo redzone by it self.

Again I think that rezone is great chanel not my cup of tea but redzone is really better then nothing.

MY concern was for competition ... and if Charlie sits on his butt when it comes biddign time then it a sad day ...

oh by he way even at full sticker price of 400 dollars is still not 1000x price mark up over th 101.83 that redzone cose for 17 weeks.

Excellent post and very TRUE!:up

I could be wrong, but isn't it $5.99 per month for the extended sports package? That would make it $23.96, plus the added benefit of all the regionals.
